- Reviewed in the United States on March 9, 2025absolutely brilliant!
- Reviewed in the United States on September 25, 2013What a mind! Francis Bacon put it together real well. It is a slow read but worth the time to reflect on how the philosophies of the often quoted Plato, Aristotle etc. had such an influence and still do. In some aspects Bacon takes them to task and rightly so. His whole premise of you are the authority on your own truth and experience was not popular in his time and people despised him because he advocated this. His theory is now proving to be true in our day - thank goodness. Your experience is your authority combined of course with all you learn. But ultimately you should have the final say about you and your experience.
- Reviewed in the United States on February 14, 2020Very readable version of Bacons masterpiece. You can’t beat the price, either.
- Reviewed in the United States on February 8, 2018Bacon puts into words some philosophical ideas I've thought of but didn't know how to articulate. This is one very smart man.
- Reviewed in the United States on November 15, 2014Beware of the reprint editions of this book. I returned my copy ans searched for the printed edition by the original publisher. The scanned print was fuzzy and the paper like newsprint.
- Reviewed in the United States on September 21, 2014Important text? Thank you
- Reviewed in the United States on February 20, 2019Very heavy in a small book
- Reviewed in the United States on April 16, 2013Print looks like it came from an old typewriter running out of ribbon ink. Font size is OK, but the print has a lot of broken char. and is not that easy to read.
If I can make one critique of Bacon's methodology, is the lack of solid examples and illustrations to give substance to his abstractions. It is really tough to get a 'sense' of what all his loquacity points to.
Undoubtedly, he was pointing out a new means of doing research and making proof of experiments, but he would have done well to give some examples. The text is rich in ideas about thinking, but nothing much of a solid foundation to demonstrate his theories by example in real life.

2.0 out of 5 stars N'est pas de Francis Bacon
Bonjour,
Ceci n'est pas le texte original traduit en anglais, c'est une explication du texte original, le livre n'est donc pas écrit par Francis Bacon.
Cordialement.

5.0 out of 5 stars How to observe nature, 400 year old advice.
Bacon's musings 400 years ago has enlivened the thinking of many people .
Like the thoughts and wonderings of a child.
Page 122/13 under the subheading of the of " Forms of heat"
All shaggy substances , as wool, skins of animals, and plumage of birds, contain some heat.
Page 123/27 Even a severe and intense cold produces a sensation of burning.
Bacon can rightly be called the " Father of Science"
He opens the mind to a wonderful but oft-times troubled world.
Remember this bok was written 400 years ago.

4.0 out of 5 stars THE FIRST TRUE METHOD GIVEN TO MAN OF DISCOVERING ACTUAL SCIENTIFIC TRUTHS
The book itself is 5 stars (and more, if there were more stars) - The author gave us - for the first time in history - a concrete and very honest method of obtaining knowledge and certainties, by developing the scientific method (by induction) of research and discovery.
(What would really make this a top-rate book, is if an editor had inserted a glossary of terms for quick reference at the back of the book, to clarify the meanings of certain words as used by the author in the context of the book).
