A riveting, ultra-realistic example of “dystopian fiction at its best” (Brad Thor, #1 New York Times bestselling author) from the acclaimed author of the Day By Day Armageddon novels!

During an unacknowledged mission inside the Syrian border, a government operative had unwittingly triggered an incredible worldwide event that irrevocably shaped the future of the United States.

In the aftermath of the crisis, families have struggled to survive in a world short on food, water, and electricity. Hyperinflation cripples the United States economy and post-war armored military vehicles are patrolling the streets.

One man has now stepped forward and continues to push back the dark wave of tyranny brought on by martial law in the streets of America, and may be the only hope of saving liberty for the country’s future.

First, I brought you the cult classic, Day by Day Armageddon, where we both journeyed alongside the unnamed survivor as he trekked across the bleak landscapes occupied by the undead.

Some time after the Great Recession, I aimed to accurately depict the bedlam of a post-grid down United States in Tomorrow War, an alternate timeline where a jack boot on the throat of humanity is only one black swan event away.

Now, in the pages of Trilobyte, I bring you a world in which the machines rule and humankind is pushed to the brink of total annihilation. Some might call it a warning of what is to come if we aren’t careful with technology.

They are closer than you think.

They will be trillions.

They will come for you.

Lock your doors and load those rail guns. The machines are here.

J.L. Bourne is a retired military officer & bestselling author of Day by Day Armageddon, Tomorrow War, and Trilobyte. Get your copies on Amazon today, before the grid goes dark.

The author, J.L. Bourne, seems to have a pretty sound understanding of where the mess we find ourselves in today could lead.

One possible scenario of what could trigger a global apocalyptic planet and the demise of America as a nation.

The military understanding is sound and appears realistic probably because of the author’s 22 years in the Navy. Don’t know what he did but he seems to have an authentic understanding of the intelligence side of our military as well.

Character wise, after a bit of a slow start, as the background is built, the books pick up quickly. Written from a first person point of view, Max’s experiences keep you engaged from after the trigger event to the end of the second book.

Human nature takes over quickly which is what I would anticipate. It ain’t pretty and it seems like that is what one could expect. Humanity is pretty much eliminated by the time the book ends with a new beginning- 90% down, again what I would expect.

The only thing missing for me was practically no Biblical reference to end times. Kind of neutral on the topic as a whole.

From a Christian perspective this is akin to the period called the time of Jacob’s trouble or in more common expression, “the tribulation period”.

No sex scenes and some, but not much, obscenity which did not detract from the story at all.

Overall an excellent read and scary wake up call that should shake one out of the normalcy bias that causes one to assume something like this could never happen in the U.S.

It can, and probably will, sooner than any of us could expect.

Great read. I found myself completing the two books in about 2 days, give or take some interruptions in time due to other events.

If this post-apocalyptic genre is of interest this is a read you will enjoy and profit from. Suitable for Christians with the exception of a bit of obscenity and one GD, along with a few grisly but quite possible scenarios.

After all, whose power reigns most strongly during the trib? This is the kind of world one could expect as a consequence. Read it. I don’t think it will disappoint.

And if you are not familiar with this genre, read it anyway. This would be a good introduction to it and may wake you up enough to save your butt along the way.

What would a total cyber induced financial collapse look like? Book two of the Max [Redacted] series takes the reader down a dark path as America and the World as the ramifications of the first book come to their full and destructive potential.

Enjoyable in in both the audiobook and text version, with great props to the Jay Snyder who also voiced the great 4 book Day by Day Armageddon zombie apocalypse series from JL Bourne.

I have been a big fan of Bourne's writing since I first read 'Day by Day Armageddon', years ago. I have always enjoyed horror/post society collapse stories.

Bourne does an amazing job at capturing the brutality of the common man after the government's of the world collapse. This is part 2 of the story of Max. Max is attempting to fix what he had a hand in, which resulted In a total meltdown of society and the riding of a brutal government.

I enjoy Bourne's stories for being pretty accurate in describin military gear, and tactics.

Reason for 4 stars is because I felt the ending is rather rushed. Perhaps another 20-50 pages would of wrapped the story up nicely. Bourne's other books are the same way, with abrupt endings. Aside from some light polishing, this is an amazing story and brings a vivid picture to your mind while reading it. I finished the book in under 2 days, as I am a very fast reader and won't put a book down unless I have to.

If you're a fan of dystopian, survivalist, or action thrillers look no further. J.L. Bourne is a master at crafting an intriguing, gripping tale that won't let go. This book is the second in the Tomorrow War series and picks up a little bit after the first book, The Tomorrow War and finds our boy Max alone and hiding out after the events last winter that started the rebellion.

Mr. Bourne weaves this sequels tale with lots of action, surprise characters showing up and shocking events that are sure to get an emotional response out of the reader. The characters inside are very relatable, and even though the main character Max is highly trained, you still feel like him at times when he sees how desparate the situation has become. Stopping at nothing to rescue a captured friend, the feeling of isolation when he's alone, the emotion he feels when he loses a friend. All are captured so well, you feel as though you're there during the story, looking over his shoulder. While the first book was about survival and making sure Max kept himself alive and fed throughout the aftermath of a calamity he helped create, this sequel focuses more on Max dealing with the nagging issues of what he did and facing the choices and situations that arise from the consequences of those actions, while also fleshing out more of the Rebellion side of things. I put this story up there with Empire Strikes Back in scale of sequels. It absolutely deserves a read!

This is a great follow-up to Tomorrow War with less agonizing CN soup. The author writes with the prescience of Matt Bracken, the character development of Vince Flynn, and the situational analysis and awareness of Brad Thor. But being sucked straight into the gritty milieu of post apocalyptic homesteading is 100% JL Borne. I get the same sense in all of Borne's books, like I was there and long for clean socks. I've now read them all, but not reviewed them all. So, if you're reading this and wondering about reading this or any of the other's by the author, don't hesitate, they're all great! I do however still fear for Elvis who was last seen running for his life with a hungry horde vectoring on his pos.

The chronicles of Max describe a future without the luxury we have nowadays. The story is written from the perspective and experience of a US soldier. Very exciting and sometimes very sad.
