Rose Island Lighthouse, Rhode Island
June 1880

Will she betray his trust to stay on the island she loves?

Abbie Watson is content to spend her days clamming, crabbing, and tending Rose Island Lighthouse. Her grandpa is the head light keeper, but his senility may lead to their eviction. Since leaving the island would kill her beloved Gramps, Abbie will do anything to keep him in the one place he knows and loves.

Wealthy Nathaniel Winthrop III’s wild living has gained him a reputation as the ‘bad boy’ among the elite social circles of Newport. After a blow to the head in a yachting accident washes him up on Rose Island, Nathaniel has no memories of his past.

Abbie tends the wounded stranger in her home only to realize he assumes they’re married. Although she knows she needs to correct Nathaniel’s mistake, his presence calms Gramps and provides a way to prevent eviction from the lighthouse.

The longer the charade continues, the harder it gets for Abbie to tell Nathaniel the truth, more so as she begins to fall in love. Everyone she’s ever loved has abandoned her. Will Nathaniel leave her too, once he discovers he’s not really her husband?

Abbie Watson's grandfather is keeper of the Rose Island Lighthouse, and day by day his memories are slipping away. She will do anything she can to help him hold on to the place that gives him security, whether it's the duties he no longer remembers to perform, neglecting sleep in order to go clamming to raise money to pay for medicine he needs...or acting like the young man washed up on the shore is her missing husband.

Nathaniel Winthrop III's life of parties and carousing comes to an abrupt end when he's thrown from his yacht in the middle of a storm. He wakes with no memory of the room he's in or of the beautiful girl tending to him. Dogged by the faint notion that he's led a life he's not proud of, Nathaniel is determined to do whatever he can to make the young woman who says she's his wife proud of him.

The amnesia device can be tough because it's so often used poorly, but Jody Hedlund doesn't overplay her hand. The parallels between Nathaniel's situation and Hosea's are poignant and add depth to the story. If it was a bit too easy to see what was coming occasionally, that was easy to forgive because of the characters themselves. There's plenty of chemistry between Abbie and Nathaniel and they were both likable and relatable. Nathaniel's growth, in particular, was nice to see.

As always with Jody Hedlund's writing, the spiritual thread is strong, encouraging the characters and through them the reader. In this case it was with the truth that "If any man is in Christ, he is a new creation." She illustrated this well through both Abbie and Nathaniel in a way that was authentic without being preachy.

Jody Hedlund is a gifted writer of historical romance and if you love that genre like I do, you'll enjoy Never Forget.

This is about a lighthouse keeper and his daughter. Her husband is missing and she believes him dead. She will not be allowed to run the lighthouse herself so when she finds a man washed up on the beach and suffering from amnesia she tells him and others that he is her husband. Both of them have to ask for forgiveness. He for his lavish lifestyle and she for pretending he is her husband. Well written story with good characters.

While this story took me a little longer to get into, it ended up grabbing my attention and kept me up reading late tonight. Never Forget, the final book in the Beacons of Hope series, had me wondering what would become of these two! Abbie, while tenderhearted and hardworking, has entrenched herself with her lies. And Nathaniel has made several bad choices and is feeling the consequences. There are so many lessons wrapped up in this one; obviously honesty and living a godly life, but woven in are the threads of family, hope, forgiveness, trust, marriage and redemption.

I loved seeing Nathaniel transform and eventually Abbie too. Both had to make some hard decisions and trust God to ultimately work it all out. Their chemistry and affection felt very real and I enjoyed the moments between them. Fans of the series will delight in this last installment!

Can Nathaniel believe he has been made new in Christ and live it out? What happens when he discovers Abbie's deception? And what will happen when his past catches up with him? Can Abby trust God and find security in the fact that He will never leave her? Can she be brave and honest? And what about the threats she is receiving from Zeke? How will she care for her grandpa? And what about those rumors of treasure? I guess you will just have to read this one to find out!

Never Forget is a tremendous book. Reads like this one, I find difficult to review as it was so very good. It had all the elements of a great story. The storyline was tremendous. Not only is it historical fiction, but it has so many other wonderfully written subplots. Love, loss, mystery, suspense, and what I love most about Christian Fiction, a tremendous faith and hope theme!

This fifth book in the serious sort of brings everything full circle and finishes off the series in spectacular fashion.

I don't care for long reviews so I'm going to keep this short, but so much more could be written about this novel. I will be purchasing it in paperback for my forever shelves. This is definitely a keeper!

I received this book from the author. All opinions written are my own.

Well, you know that old movie with Kurt Russell and Goldie Hawn and she's a married rich heiress and he's a poor carpenter struggling to make ends make? She falls overboard and he makes her think they're married and she does all this hard work and becomes happy because she's not a spoilt brat anymore. So, this plot is a gender reversal of that exact movie. Which they tried to remake anyway, and it fell flat, and sucked so no one ever watched it.
This book is the ACTUAL remake and it should have been the movie script for the remake. Completely would have worked. Just enough nuance to be different, no kids, but a Alzheimer's stricken old man, treasure hunt, way better back story for the rich guy who looses his memory, surprise not dead people constantly, with secret loves too, and the sister of the lighthouse woman meddling on the edges.
Spoiler alert: I was not impressed with the not his baby. We already went through the same thing with Kitty and the fake pregnancy, or who ever it was, we knew it wasn't going to be his baby, why in the world does the not dead guy knock up the wife he doesn't love after returning from his dead brothers wife. Ugh almost ruined the ending, but I didn't care too much cause it was over and I enjoyed the rest of it.

Jody Hedlund always transports me to the most wonderful locations. This time, Rose Island Lighthouse in 1880. I loved the characters and I just kept turning the page. A fitting end for a delightful series.
