I first read this back in 1985 when it was first published and really enjoyed. I still have that old paperback but as I’m converting my library over to ebooks I’ve been re-visiting a lot of these old books to see which ones I really want to keep. After re-reading it I have purchased this for my Kindle with a big yes. I had kind of forgotten how much I always loved Carole’s books from the eighties with this being a great example. This is such a fun story!

Leonie is a very unique heroine being funny and klutzy and Adam was wonderful! I laughed many times and even now am chuckling thinking about the pale yellow Kleenex pieces all over his shoe and the thought of her sprawled out in the elevator, again! This book is a fun read if you don’t want something to make your heart hurt and that’s why I’m keeping it for good.

This the story of a woman who was nervous when she was around others, especially her husband. She thought he was embarrassed when she was clumsy. She had help in this by a conniving female. She leaves him. But she gains a lover. Who showed her that she could be loved no matter what. Will she go back to her husband or stay where she is? Loved how her lover showed her no matter what she was loved.

Back Cover: He was more attentive as a lover - Leonie had a tendency to drop things, knock things over or bump into them, a tendency that had irritated her husband Adam Faulkner when they'd lived together - a tendency that her lover seemed to find endearing. "I suggest we make another appointment, " Adam asserted easily after Leonie missed their rendezvous when the elevator stuck. "Sometime in the afternoon," he added. Leonie found herself forgetting the inhibitions that had made their marriage and agony. Adam was irrepressible - not at all like her husband. How could she resist?

My Review: A very good book. The characters were really fun and there was a chemistry between them. Of course there was that same old misunderstanding and a bit of a mystery. I think if Adam would have been completely honest with Leonie in the beginning she may not have understood but then he wouldn't have had so much guilt either. He was in a very precarious position, but it turned out pretty good!

I totally enjoyed this story. It was quite entertaining. But I do agree with the other reviewers on the point of his sleeping with the sister in law. The reasoning was a load of crap. Based on the time this book was actually released, the scenes were very forward based.

Just loved this book, Ms. Mortimer has excelled herself the theme of the book was a wonderful idea there was suspence, humor and romance. Loved the characters specially Adam's. The mysterious phone calls were pretty scary, I know because I had gone through same experience but for me police were pretty helpful
