Communicate Like a Leader: Connecting Strategically to Coach, Inspire, and Get Things Done Kindle Edition
An Axiom Awards Silver Medal Winner
People often get promoted to leadership positions without knowing how to communicate an inspiring strategic vision to the people who report to them. So they focus on what they know: tactics, not strategy. As a result, they become stuck in micromanagement mode—driving people away instead of drawing them in.
Dianna Booher wants to prevent micromanagement before it happens by providing you with the right leadership communication skills. Grounded in extensive research, this book offers practical guidelines to help professionals think, coach, converse, speak, write, meet, and negotiate strategically to deliver results. In thirty-six brief chapters, Booher shows you how to communicate effectively to audiences up and down the organization so you can fulfill your most essential responsibilities as a leader.
“If you’re a micromanager, you need to know it’s not just ineffective—it’s also the most labor-intensive leadership style. When you read Communicate like a Leader, you’ll learn strategic communication skills that will improve your relationship with your people and actually make leading easier.” —Ken Blanchard, New York Times-bestselling coauthor of The New One Minute Manager

- Reviewed in the United States on September 28, 2017Dianna Booher is an incredibly prolific author who has emerged with another highly readable and practical book that will be helpful to people across many functions and levels of an organization. It not only asks leaders to think before acting but gives them the tools to do that effectively. I especially enjoyed her chapters on crafting strategic questions and being a leader who laughs. The examples and advice are spot on and well researched. Highly recommend this one!
- Reviewed in the United States on July 3, 2017If you are a leader, no matter what level, you need this book. If you've read anything by Booher, you know the advice is sound and doable. What I liked best was the bite-size format of this book. You can put it somewhere close and go back when you need just the right words or a quick review on your best strategic approach for your situation. Highly recommend this book!
- Reviewed in the United States on July 21, 2017Easy to read and informative. I just felt like much of the material covers topics that I've already seen in other management books. So if you've read many of the popular titles in this field, much will sound familiar here.

- Reviewed in the United States on August 3, 2017Dianna Booher does it again. This book gives practical strategies, wisdom and tips that I wish I knew 30 years ago. I gave copies of this to college graduates in May - they need this advice! But leaders and wanna-be leaders of all ages will learn from this book.
- Reviewed in the United States on June 15, 2017One of the best books on the market for leaders and emerging leaders. Booher is the master of communication and everyone who aspires to be a leader or is already a leader has to read this book if you want to move forward.
- Reviewed in the United States on September 19, 2017A must read for leaders. Booher provides clear strategies in bite-sized chapters. Covering topics ranging from conversations to meetings to writing and beyond, it is a guide for all aspects of effective communication.
- Reviewed in the United States on February 24, 2023Author keeps using “this audio” to refer to the audiobook itself. That’s enough to drive you batty, but it’s paired with superficial content that gets steadily worse throughout the first three chapters.
