From Clients to Crooks: An Insider Reveals the Real Washington D.C. Kindle Edition

4.1 out of 5 stars 43 ratings

A former GOP political consultant exposes the corruption, greed, and dirty tricks that control our country in this tell-all memoir.

Leslie Sorrell started a successful and influential political consulting firm in Texas, working with many of the state’s Republican congressman. Her goal was to save the country by helping good people get into office and stay there. But over time she discovered the true character of these supposedly good people. Those experiences introduced Leslie to the real world of politics—the side media fails to cover.

Challenging a congressman in a primary election violates the political insider code, but Leslie did it anyway. She decided to work for congressional hopeful Grant Stinchfield, pitting herself against her own former client, Republican congressman Kenny Marchant—a man she had learned not to trust. Before the campaign was over, Leslie found herself stripped of every political ideal she ever had. And while she lost the race, she knows the real losers in American politics are the American people. But the first step toward taking our country back is exposing the truth.

Leslie Sorrell’s had success in growing a start-up to a successful and influential political consulting firm. This has transformed her understanding of the real world of politics—the one the media fails to cover. It’s a world none of us want to believe in – Leslie included.

Challenging a Congressman in a primary election race violates the political insider code, but Leslie did it anyway. Before that campaign ended, she would find herself stripped of every ideal she had ever had about politics. It wasn’t long before she realized that the real losers in American politics are the American people.

The first step in taking our country back is knowing the truth.

Leslie gives personal and tremendous insight into why D.C. has been called "The Swamp." I've always heard the expression "Knowledge is power, but power corrupts," and now I have a genuine understanding of what that phrase truly means. Sorrell was in the trenches, and she understands the influence of democracy and the power of the citizens when it comes to voting. I highly recommend this book to anyone who is an avid fan of politics and the election process. It is humbling to realize how vulnerable we are to the corruption so integrated into American politics and the power it has over the citizens of our great nation. Excellent read!

Leslie has success in growing a start-up to a political consulting firm and has first hand insight to the meaning of DC being labeled " The Swamp" and sheds light on those that participate in a campaign process. It is a quick paced read with intricate details of her experience dealing with the "Crooks" during a political campaign. Great book for those who are an avid fan of the election process & the reality of politics the "news" fails to report accurately.

Leslie takes you on a fascinating journey and shares her insights into what we all thought might be so but hoped was not. She gives a serious but inviting view into the everyday, sometimes dark, realities of running a campaign. Her story reads at a quick, fast moving pace and still manages to provide the reader with very intricate details of her experience. After reading about her adventure you will, no doubt, look at your next national or local election with a completely different perspective and understanding of what is going on in the background.

    Not very good

Leslie Sorrell has presented a folksy, yet cynical tale of her rise through Washington and Texas polical circles. Wirh humor she recounts her ascent in terms of both clients and positions, using the particulars of each assignment to point out lessons learned. If knowledge is power, then this book might help us recapture ours in the voting booth.

It was an interesting read and worth the time. However, I was disappointed by the number of misspelled words, missing words and grammatical errors. I'm surprised a publishing house would release such a poorly edited book.

Leslie Sorrell's From Clients to Crooks is an amazing book that captivated me from the very first page. It reads like a thriller - a political Silence of the Lambs, if you will. I especially loved how the author built her credibility by spending a great deal of time on her background and start in the political arena. I used to watch the cable "news" until I became disgusted with the lies and partisan reporting over the past election. I felt my blood begin to boil several times as I read chapter passages that detailed the corruption of power and contempt for the American people. Kudos to the author for shining a light on the cockroaches who participate in a campaign process that most of us know exists but seldom see.

Leslie Sorrell pulls no punches in FROM CLIENTS TO CROOKS! I couldn't stop reading this insightful personal account from a political professional who spent several years fighting in the trenches of state and national politics.
It's the fascinating and charming story of a determined young woman from a small Southern town who believed so strongly in the American political system as it's supposed to be, she threw away a lucrative career to tell the American public what the politicians they elect actually do when they get in office.

To have Character is to seek Truth. Author Sorrell's book sent a ripple across the pond to Canada. Informed only by biased media and sound bites, outsiders, let alone international outsiders rarely hear unfiltered Truth about the inner political system in Washington D.C. The book illustrates through real stories, how good people can enter a corrupt system and find themselves dancing on the boundaries of dirty versus clean motives. In the end there are lessons learned that only the reader will know if they pick up and read this book without judgement or outside influence. Thank you Leslie for the courage to tell the Truth!
