I ordered this book after the sudden death of my husband of 30 years- I was finding the support of kind and well-meaning friends wearing. This book helped put it in perspective for me, and Ihave retruned to it many times in the past few weeks, as it helps normalize what I'm experiencing and gives me hope for a future that looks and feels pretty bleak at times. I would recommend this to anyone-

Having watched Joann's podcasts and worked with her as my life coach, I was looking forward to this book. I could hear her voice in this book. Honesty, empathy, clarity and humor are infused with a strong message. I have not lost my husband, yet, but his stroke has stollen the life we had planned. In reading this book, there are tools I can use to live my best year while my husband is here and prepare for his likely passing before me.
Thank you for this "page turner" book and the message of hope for the future. I'll be buying extra copies of this book to give to friends and family who are widowed. Thank you.

Bullseye! The sudden loss of my beloved, during the pandemic changed my life forever! JoAnn was one of the God sent Angels to help me through it. At first I had hesitation to read Widowed, but each chapter was so profound, I could not deny the emotions that surfaced. Sometimes I had to re-read a chapter, due to the fog (tears), triggers. This is not a book, you read and never refer to again. You need to refer to it often!

Although I am not a widow, I have experienced profound loss and Joann's words are a balm. It's like sitting down with a dear girlfriend over a cup of coffee or a glass of wine. Her discussion of grief, from her own personal experience, is priceless advice ("Your grief is separate from guilt, and is beautiful." and "...a widow experiencing grief is not a pathology."). This book not only help widows process their grief and other emotions, it provides a hopeful path forward that honors the whole of who we are as human beings, messy emotions and all. If you are a widow, let Joann show you the way!

I am not a widow, so I almost made the mistake of passing over this book. It truly would have been a mistake. This book is beautiful for anyone who has lost someone so dear and so much a part of their lives that they became temporarily immobilized after their loss. I have lived through the death of both of my parents as one of the caregivers in the last few months of both of their lives. I didn't have this in 09 when my mom died, but finding it now after the death of my father a few months ago has made all the difference in the grieving process. I am buying a copy for my step mother and highly recommend it for anyone wondering what they will do without that person.
