32 Missing Pages!
I purchased War Storm February 27,2018. My granddaughter was reading the series and this was the next one in line. She’s in gifted 8th grade and with a heavy workload she didn’t get to this book until late November. She got to page 600 and was at an intense part when she started reading the next page and realized she was reading the end of the dramatic scene instead of the middle! Pages 601 through 632 were missing! The book appeared to be bound this way. Has anyone else had this happen? Unfortunately, we have past the expiration date to return the book so we’ll have to buy another one because my granddaughter is in love with this series and writer, Victoria Aveyard. The book and author get 5 stars but the disappointment takes it down to 4. Lesson learned: check that all the pages are there before you past the last date to return.

The last book of this series was well worth the wait. It had been a while since I finished the third book so when I started reading the fourth and final book, I had to catch up on what was happening. Within the first few chapters, the memory of events from the earlier books came flooding back.

What I really enjoyed in the series finale was how the author wrote from various characters perspectives. I especially liked how some chapters were from Maven’s point of view. His mother ruined his mind, leaving him shattered. Still, reading the story from his point of view makes you search for any sign that he can be saved from his mother’s cruel manipulations.

The love story between Cal and Mare was fun to read, as always. They never make it easy on each other and always put their own agendas before each other. But will things change in this book? You’ll find out after reading the book.

Overall the series was well written, easy to read, and easy to get sucked into. You’ll love and hate various characters. You’ll rejoice at times and cry at others. You’ll never get bored because there is always something huge happening. If your looking for something to escape into, I would recommend this series and all the drama it brings :)

This book had a lot of action and was not predictable, and I like that about books. I had no idea what would happen with the war. Although this is the last book of the series, I really feel like the author left open the possibility for another one. Stories were left open. The ending was pretty realistic, not corny or fairytale-ish, as in Mare and Cal getting married and living happily ever after as king and queen. The saga was left open for more--the Lakelanders only retreated, but they will be back. Norta is a hot mess right now that will take years to sort out. There are more stories here to be told. Mare and Cal still love each other, but need time apart. Maven was a good villain, irredeemable, and just hollow. If the author wanted to, she could continue with another series about the aftermath of this war and give the fans the ending they want--with Mare and Cal finding their way back to each other, even if it is years later. The storyline with Maven is finished, but I would like another to begin. Overall, I found the book very entertaining, and I enjoyed reading the viewpoints of several main characters.

*this review contains spoilers* I started this series a while ago and recently picked up the last two books in an attempt to cure my book drought. I originally loved the first book and thought the second was pretty good. The same could be said of this one. There were elements that I liked a lot, the fighting scenes made me want more, I love how the dynamics or the characters changed. Honestly I love the dynamic between Maven and Mare because I can feel how torn they both are about each other and I’ve never given hope to someone in a Villan role or felt so much for someone in that way but Victoria does an amazing job creating that relationship. The world building to me was quite well done, the scenes gave me envy wishing I could step into the book and just watch the events unfold.

However I wish there was more build on the the relationship between Cal and Mare. Maybe some more with Farley. I feel as though I got a great in complex and in depth relationship with Maven and at times with Evangeline (someone make them a crime fighting pair please) it just felt like some of the other relationships became flat after a while. Not changing or growing. I also would have liked to see more character development in Mare. I just felt that she also felt flat in the last two books. The POV switched up in the last two books so that could be one reason why, but I just wished I could see her grow. Instead she seemed to kind of stay the same, very dark, “I’m a monster”, “I’m strong as lightning” which are very real emotions but I wish she would have explored Mare growing more. I guess that’s what the epilogue was setting up, but all that growth is left to our imagination and that’s what I enjoy most in books with strong characters.

I also wish it didn’t end so abruptly. I was shocked when the end riding came up because it just seemed like this book was setting up for this large earth shattering ending and it was just like... we have submarines. We won. It just felt rushed and careless. Then Mare kills Maven, talks to Cal and then they break up, and she leaves... also without ANY explanation as to how the revolution is doing or how they are going change the society or the fact that Cal decides to throw the crown away because Evangeline tells him its not too late? But not because you know the girls who you love and is a red tells you too... Overall I was really happy with this book, I think I’m just a bit bitter because at the end I’m left with more questions than answers. I loved the story so much I want the answers. The whole book was about a revolution that we never get answers too and that seems like a disservice to the story. But maybe that’s the point, Mare left it behind to find herself and to not think or be involved in some of those things, and maybe we’re supposed to follow suit.

This was the final battle scene for the series and it definitely was worth the wait to see how the characters would triumph or fall. I do wish there was more to the enemies side on their final battle but regardless it leaves us wanting to know how the world evolves after so much war. Who will end up together and who will move forward to a new future.

War Storm is the conclusion to.the Red Queen saga as the Reds, the Silvers, and the newbloods form new alliances to fight against each other to take control of the various kingdoms. The resolutely Silver kingdoms - Norta, the Lakelands, and Piedmont - rally to fight the Reds, the Silvers who accept the Reds, and the newbloods who join together to take over Montford, parts of the Prairies, and Norta and destroy the Rift. The enmity between Maven and Cal comes to head and a battle for control erupts among the Silver kingdoms as well. This is an excellent conclusion to the series and I highly recommend it.
