Clinging to this last shred of family connection, Ilka makes an uncharacteristically rash decision. She flies to Wisconsin, hoping to find some insight into her father's life in America before preparing the business for a quick sale. This Story was fantastic! I especially loved how the author kept me guessing until the very end. I thought at one point, I had it figured out, was I ever wrong! I also loved the fact that I could personally relate to the places mentioned in the book, as Racine, Wisconsin is my hometown! I can hardly wait for book two to drop!

This book was not at all what I was expecting. This is my first book by this author but she comes endorsed by one of my favorite authors Karin Slaughter so I wanted to give her a try. This is a new series set in America. Not a lot of mystery in this book, in fact the small mystery is more of a subplot. With all that said, I did really like this book. It had interesting characters and I just wanted to know more and find out what happens. I have some of her older books that are set in Denmark that I want to read as well. I'm hooked enough to want to read the next installment.

This was so different from the Sara Blaedel Louise Rick series that I was halfway through before I realized there was, in addition to the family drama in the plot, an actual murder mystery. Both stories, that of a girl coming to grips with her father's abandonment and that of a years-old murder, were gripping and came together well.
