Rick Acker writes novels during his commute to and from his "real job" as a Supervising Deputy Attorney General in the California Department of Justice. His unit prosecutes corporate fraud lawsuits of the type described in the #1 bestseller, WHEN THE DEVIL WHISTLES, which award-winning author Colleen Coble describes as "a legal thriller you won't want to miss!"

Rick has led investigations and lawsuits that made headlines in and out of California. Most recently, he and his team won a string record-breaking judgments and settlements against the Wall Street players who created the toxic mortgage securities that triggered the Great Recession. Before joining DOJ, Rick was a senior litigator at Bingham McCutchen, where he worked on high stakes litigation, including a fight between two owners of the San Francisco Forty-Niners and a multibilllion dollar international fraud case. Rick has law degrees from the University of Oslo and the University of Notre Dame, where he graduated with honors. In addition to his novels, he is a contributing author on two legal treatises published by the American Bar Association.

When Rick isn't writing or lawyering, you can usually find him with his wife, Anette, and their four children. They'll be exploring in the hills east of San Francisco, watching a good movie together, or, of course, reading. You can visit him on the web at www.rickacker.com

GUILTY BLOOD by Rick Acker
Jessica world is rocked when a phone call from her son, being accused.
She would go to any length, included a pass interest, of Nate. He is not a criminal lawyer, but, when the stakes are high enough, he would try harder.
How did this even come about, was her son in the wrong place, or was there more behind it. Gripping plot when it involves the young college boy. Readers will be caught, as Jessica was from the first phone call,

This is my second Rick Acker novel and I definitely recommend his novels if you enjoy legal thrillers.

The main plot is pretty clear with this novel. The beauty comes in the details as they unfold. I especially loved secondary character Kevin and the time in his thoughts. For example, him telling himself he should check for clarity every 55 words when explaining something complicated to someone else. Kevin is very exacting and being in his thoughts was entertaining. The ending scene was wonderful.

This was a good book. Having read three other Rick Acker books in the last two weeks, I'd say it's not his best, but it's still quite good. A book with Christian themes but not necessarily squeaky clean, as it deals with real-life topics such as human trafficking and prostitution. There were a couple of loose ends but nothing overly significant. I'll continue to read this author's work. It's refreshing to find a legal thriller that doesn't have explicit language or sex scenes.

I love Rick Acker. I usually have a hard time reading books and get distracted easily with other things, but I can never put down one of Acker's books. They are full of excitement and flow so well from one chapter to the next. Great work on this one. I can't wait to read his next book.

J: It started with a BANG; I could not put it down. This was a really good story right up until it started getting complicate and a bit too long due to the complications. I liked the characters but I started reading just the dialogue to try to move it along. However, the last third of the story got really good again.

Rick Acker has a gift that makes it hard to put his book down. He gets his point across without being preachy. He keeps the clues coming even as the situations seem impossible.

Janet Sketchley
5.0 out of 5 stars Well-written legal thriller

Guilty Blood is an engaging, well-written legal thriller. It’s a clean read, including a few Christian characters whose faith comes out naturally in the story. Brandon’s doubts about God, and his anger at the injustice in his life, also comes out naturally.

One of the things I appreciated about the novel is that although it deals with horrific subjects like human trafficking and gang warfare, the content is neither sugar-coated nor traumatic. The author does a great job of presenting the realities while providing a “safe” read.

My favourite character is Kevin Fang, a 30-something computer genius on the Autism Spectrum, whose hacking is instrumental in finding many of the keys to the crime. Actually, I picked up this book after “meeting” Kevin in a novella by Rick Acker included in the Kill Zone box set.

The novel talks a lot about DNA and computer hacking, but never in a way that’s skim-worthy or that requires a PhD to understand. The possibilities are interesting—and disturbing.
