A Drop of Paradise (Bookworms & Alphas Book 1) Kindle Edition
Broad-shouldered Mike Stone was irresistible, sexy, and cooler than a chilled mojito in the middle of summer, not to mention the perfect choice for the cover of her next novel. But not all the imagination in the world could have prepared her for what might happen between two strangers on a spit of sand when sparks started to fly, and anger turned into lust.
A Drop of Paradise is the first book in the Bookworms & Alphas series!

About the author

Alex L. Michaels has been addicted to reading and writing ever since she learned how to walk. She writes swoon-worthy romance with domineering, dirty-talking alpha heroes and sassy, independent heroines. She is a movie buff, TV series addict and a horror aficionado, but books always come first. If she's not writing or reading, she's either watching a horror movie, plotting her next novel or chasing her dreams.

- Reviewed in the United States on December 22, 2017Mike Stone saved the day in more ways than one in A Drop in Paradise. He was the voice of reason as the story meanders through a series of mishaps that keeps Mike and Jessica together. If you dreamed up the guy you would hope to be stranded on a deserted island there’s a good chance Mike would be your man! Jessica on the other hand drove me crazy with her flippant, indecisive and dismissive interactions with Mike.
Jessica has taken off to holiday island with the intention of switching off from life and finishing the book she is writing. The beginning of the story delves in and out of Jessica’s mind, sharing snippets of the novel she is determined to write quickly discovering her island retreat is not the environment she envisaged. Distractions were persistently getting between her and her characters. At this rate there was no way her book was going to happen unless it could write itself.
There’s a lot going on to the point I was waiting for a paranormal or psychological twist to come out or an identical twin to justify the dramatic change in Jessica’s behaviour. Unfortunately there was no explanation for her chopping and changing her mind. Then there was the stopping and starting of acting on the undeniable attraction they felt for each other. While Mike had no problems expressing how he felt, the poor guy was receiving mixed messages from Jessica. Now, there were a lot of interruptions from various peoples that went some way to explaining why they never got past kissing for the majority of the book but what astounded me was her running hot and cold. Her reservations were surprising considering from all accounts her writing was alluded to as being explicit.
The dramas Jessica and Mike were forced to endure had a comical and surreal air to them with moments where the situations were wrapped up with scant details and far too quickly. While the ending did bring the story to a conclusion that summed up her destination being pivotal to the plot, it didn’t make up for the confusion brought on by the reason they were stranded in the first place. I am glad I was able to read this book without interruptions in order to keep up with Jessica and her adventure.
In between the frustrations, there was a lot to enjoy in this story. The banter Jessica and Mike shared was entertaining and I always believed they were meant for each other.
- Reviewed in the United States on November 18, 2017I love the story. The characters made me laugh so much that my husband made me read parts out loud. The only problem was the grammatical errors. There are way too many errors. I may even ask for an editable copy. I still loved it. It is a fun romp.
- Reviewed in the United States on September 16, 2017While it took me a few chapters to really connect with the characters and get into the story once I did I couldn't put it down. The crazy situations and adventures that Mike and Jessica end up on throughout the book are priceless. It had me wishing I would have a similar vacation experience.
- Reviewed in the United States on September 21, 2017This was a a little frustrating to read. The use of past tense and current happenings were used in the same sentence. Than instead of then and hangover instead of hungover are just a few examples of distracting errors. The sexual tension was high at times but it would deflate and the characters were digress into high school immature antics. In the last 5% of the book a rushed explanation of her would be robber and the mysterious fiancée was unveiled with lame or little explanation. The use of descriptions slowed the story down to a snails pace. I did love the little islands they visited and the people they met. It was charming. I wished I liked this more than I did.
- Reviewed in the United States on November 23, 2017It was a fun read, pretty good story but there were too many errors in word usage, spelling, and overall grammar to fully enjoy the book. I did finish this one to see what happened with Mike and Jessica and Stephen but I don't think I'll read anything else by this author in the future.
- Reviewed in the United States on December 8, 2017Oh how much I wanted to punch Jessica. How many times was she going to turn her back on Mike??? And how many times was she going to run off or do something stupid? She's an intelligent author!
But regardless, it was fun and sexy and holy cow the sex scenes were on fire. I really enjoyed the story.
- Reviewed in the United States on October 1, 2017This is a new author for me, and I look forward to reading more of her work. Jessica is a romance writer and when she is struggling to finish her current novel, she decides to get some peace and quiet, but unfortunately the Island she chooses is a crowded resort. Mike moved to this Island, and captains his own boat, and while on a day trip Jessica and Mike end up stranded on a deserted island. These two are like oil and water to start off, and I loved the humorous banter and the shenanigans they get up to.
This is a sweet and fun storyline, which is well written and I was hooked and captivated throughout. I recommend this authors work for all readers.

4.0 out of 5 stars A very entertaining read!
I had a good giggle at this book.
With writer's block firmly entrenched, Jessica goes off on holiday in the hopes that a change of scenery will get her creative juices flowing again!
Mike, the captain and all round pain in the butt, is relentless in his pursuit of her.
As their attraction builds, they lurch from one crisis to another disaster, causing chaos in their well ordered lives!
Sparks fly from this unlikely pair and give a very entertaining read!
