Beautiful quilts based on William Morris designs.
This is the first book written by Michelle Hill, with patterns and directions for creating quilts based on William Morris' designs. There are instructions for 6 projects and 40 applique designs included. All of the projects are original and unique. The directions are for raw-edge applique only. I recommend this book. Years ago I purchased a William Morris book of tear-out paper gift wraps. I rarely used them because they were too pretty . I am thrilled to have this "companion" book of appliques. Upon delivery, I immediately sat down to thumb through it, and was instantantly immersed in the historical writings the author included. Applique patterns included, and instructions appear to be thorough and easy to follow.

This book is a must have!
I'm new to William Morris and fairly new to Applique and made the miniature sampler easily. Lots of information on Morris' life, great projects, awesome photography. Also learned a lot of basic techniques such as application of bindings, hanging sleeves etc. She also provides techniques and info on quilting these projects for both the machine and hand quilter for beginners and masters alike.
What is also very helpful is that with each project Michelle provides diagrams on laying out and cutting the backgrounds, borders, hanging sleeves and binding fabrics so there is minimal waste when cutting these, very useful and economical!!!
I intend on buying all her books on William Morris. I am hooked indeed!!! Keep 'em coming Michelle***

This is the second William Morris in Applique by Michele Hill that I own. Both are very interesting reading if you want to know all about William Morris, his life and his designs. They also have some lovely designs to reproduce. Michele's interpretations of the William Morris designs are stunning and easy to work out. Happy reading.

I had been looking for this book for a while. I shop for books of interest in the used category. My previous attempt sold out. This one was in perfectly usable condition and was actually better than the advertised condition. I look forward to starting a project with the patterns.

It is lovely to get an insight into the life of the author, and how she came to be a lover of the William Morris style. Her detailed knowledge about tackling applique is superb. I have already picked up many tips. The photography is excellent. Her instructions are clear and easy to understand. The patterns are awe inspiring. It is a joy to read and browse. She has brought William Morris into the 21st century with her quilts. All quilters will love this book.

This book has some beautiful photographs and a bit of background in the first chapter about William Morris. I am looking forward to trying one of the projects soon (templates are in the back of the book), and after looking at the instructions, they seem to be easier than I would have at first thought.

5.0 out of 5 stars Spectacular!

I came across Michelet Hill's quilts while surfing the web and I immediately fell in love with her work. I knew right away that I would be making those quilts. It wasn't long before I ended up purchasing her books (after buying this one I immediately purchased its sequel, More William Morris).
When the book arrived, I couldn't get to it fast enough. Let me tell you, it did not disappoint! It is absolutely spectacular. There isn't a single project in that book that I won't be making. I already bought my fabric for three of the projects (Bird, Friends, and Kelmscott). The book is beautifully illustrated with William Morris' designs and Michele Hill's interpretation of his work. Her instructions are very well illustrated, clear and concise.
I would classify this book not only as a quilting book but an Art History one as well. It contains many historical facts of the life and times of William Morris. It's a depiction of creativity from a beautifully romantic era. It transports you back in time! You'll enjoy this book very much. It makes you dream of those bygone days. For me, dreaming is exactly what a great book should make you do!
This masterpiece is definitely a must have!!!
