I'm sad that this series has come to an end. I enjoyed every book in it! The Hunter family, and its friends, felt like family to me and the community in this Arizona small town in the mountains was a place I wanted to visit! In this book, a "long lost" Hunter, Denny Hunter, has come home to take care of some business for his mother. She is the ex-wife of the main Hunter clan and Denny, of course, is the son but he left when he was two years old, so although he has many cousins, aunts & uncles, and his father, he doesn't go back home. He's never felt comfortable there. But, his mom owns property there and one of these is the Pinewood Inn which is falling apart so he needs to go check it out. There, he meets Lillian, her aunt and her niece, Taylor. There are some rough waters there between them because Denny is a big city guy and he thinks the Inn isn't worth restoring because it'll take too much money but Lillian wants to restore it, obviously. I loved the characters in the book, especially young, Taylor. Her situation is so sad yet there is hope for her! I especially like how Denny and Lillian changed throughout the book and came to change misconceptions about each other and about themselves. I would definitely recommend it!

A contemporary romance that features a home reno theme? I'm totally in! And in love with this ramshackle inn that just needs a bit of TLC to make it shine again.

Lillian is trying to keep up with all the changes in her life. Caring for an ailing aunt, being substitute mum to her hurting niece and trying to keep the inn afloat so they all have a roof over their heads. Romance is the last thing on this runaway bride's mind.

There's something about a wounded hero that plays havoc with my romance-loving heart. Having lived through his parents' messy divorce as a young child, Denny has spent a lifetime looking for a place to belong. Over-achieving in a bid to meet his stepfather's approval, estranged from his biological father and his extended family...well, let's just say that navigating the rough waters of family dysfunction takes all of Denny's time and attention. Meaning he is just as adverse to romance as Lillian is. These two clash from the get go but that's okay because this rough start romance is peppered with a mix of sass, angst and laughter. And a cute little matchmaker who has dreams of her own.

Did not hold my interest as much as the first five books in this series.

This was a great story line and is believable, meaning, I could see it really happening to people today. So much truth in dysfunctional families and this book has them. I appreciated Lillian's faith and her quiet personality, but also her strong willed side. Denny was so much more than his outer shell portrayed. He came a long way from the first chapter to the Epilogue! I loved what Taylor and Aunt Vi bring to the story! Great characters.
I didn't connect with the story for several chapters, and I don't know why (probably me). Maybe it felt slow moving at first, but once the story line picked up, I really enjoyed it!
