About the Author

Cricket Rohman grew up in Estes Park, Colorado, and spent her formative years among deer, coyotes and beautiful blue columbine. Today she is a full-time author writing about the great outdoors, teachers, dogs, cowboys, life's little mysteries-even Alzheimer's. Her very first publishing success was in the children's books category. Her newest adult release, SAVING MADELINE, women's fiction, is about a Hollywood actor, a wounded warrior, and a woman with Alzheimer's co-existing in a small Los Angeles apartment. Cricket's first published novels for adults include the three romantic mysteries in The Lindsey Lark Series in which the protagonist is a wonderful teacher in the desert southwest. Book 1 WANTED: AN HONEST MAN Book 2 LETTERS, LOVERS, & LIES Book 3 HIT THE ROAD, JAKE! And, yes. All three books are works of fiction. REALLY! (Well, except the part about the dog; Cricket really had a dog like Wendell, the mastiff, who appears in every book.) What's next? COLORADO TAKEDOWN, a romantic suspense novel in which a desert party girl (Hannah Hudson) who wins millions in the lottery, teams up with high mountain rancher (Trace McAllister) to fight the sudden evil that stalks her. And, THE FANTASY MAKER series. Cricket is hoping for a late 2017 release date. Prior to writing, Cricket's career path included the following: actor, singer, audio/video producer, classroom teacher, school principal, and U of A, College of Education assistant professor.

This is a wonderfully written, exquisitely illustrated book. The story is unique and the owl is adorable. It would be a great bedtime storybook.
Every Christmas ends in a singing contest. Each animal family selects a song and every member must participate. The bears were going to sing Deck the Halls. The problem is baby bear can't sing. The squirrels were writing an original piece. Off to the cougars, then to the birds who always win. They practice all year long. Who will win this year? You will get to read/listen and see. Lucky you!!

A cute, children's Christmas story. The narrator, an owl, visits several animal families planning to participate in the annual Christmas song contest. The owl gives advice to one family but oversleeps. No real surprises. No real meaning. Just a short, cute story.

Who knew? A Christmas Carol contest. We always sing in a choir contest. I’m sure glad we don’t have to compete against the birds.

Very cute Christmas Book for kids. The illustrations and story line are great. I love the way they found a solution to the problem they had and that they came together in the end.

Christmas in the North Woods is the first children's book I have read from Cricket Rohman. I certainly hope there are more. She captures the Christmas spirit in her tale of a concert contest amongst the animals living in North Woods.

The animals portray many human traits in their quest to win the contest. Yet, the most important parts are the subtle lessons to be learned.

Oliver, the wise old owl, narrates the tale. He travels between all the animal homes letting us know how the preparations for the concert are coming along.

You have the bears who will not choose a song that all members of their family can't sing. They realize they might be forgoing their shot at the trophy but feel it's more important they participate as a family.

Next are the squirrels, who aren't known for their musical abilities but are certainly enthusiastic participants.

Then there are the cougars. They are known as loners but still preparing their entry for the Christmas celebration.

Lastly, the birds are working hard to keep their title from previous years. Most of the animals in the North Woods don't begrudge their long winning streak, as they practice all year long.

Overall, my reaction to Christmas in the North Woods was pure delight. The illustrations beautifully enhance the story. Readers, old and young alike, will want to hear this story over and over. The lyrical cadence makes this an easy book to enjoy.

I believe this book belongs in every family's holiday library. Cricket Rohman is a talented author. I have read several of her adult stories and love each of them.
