H. G. Wells: The War of the Worlds Kindle Edition

4.3 4.3 out of 5 stars 60 ratings

Death comes from the sky in this thrilling graphic novel adaptation of the classic science fiction adventure.

Several days ago, projectiles from the Red Planet began to rain down on Earth. Professor Ogilvy of the small town of Ottershaw, England, is skeptical of theories that it is an alien attack—until a meteor crashes near his home. Inside the crater, he discovers a giant cylinder that can only be the work of a superior civilization—the intentions of which are
not peaceful. From the extraterrestrial capsule emerges a tripod, an immense machine of death that is soon joined by many others, with the sole intention of exterminating all life on Earth.

H. G. Wells’s science fiction classic
The War of the Worlds has been adapted several times for the big screen and radio shows across the globe. With this stunning and faithful graphic novel adaptation, the epic tale has finally found a place in comics.

G. Wells.

I never read the original story by HG Wells so I went into this with an open mind. The comic is able to grow the story more then the movies did by spending more time developing the characters while still keeping a good pace to the story. Overall, this was an enjoyable read that I wished there was more of.

Great art and story moves along well.

I decided to get this on a whim, being a long time lover of the book, due to the reviews that "the art work was great". I have to admit that, overall, the artist did a pretty good job except for (and this is a big one) the Martian war machines and the Martians. The machines remind me of the coffee loving "worms" from "Men in Black", with the elongated, hunched body and ridiculously skinny legs, while the Martian design goes far astray of H.G. Wells' magnificent description of the invader as being little more than "a brain with a hand". The slight changes in story details were expected (does any adaptation leave the original in tact?) so I didn't mind those. With better designed tripods and more faithfully drawn Martians, it would have been quite good.

I bought the time machine and war of the worlds ....welllll....awesome art work...but it is advertized as faithfull adoptions, i think its time you should read the original novels again and again and to be sure one more time again...
And be sure to read the descriptions of the martians, the tripods and the time machine....

I loved this graphic novel! The story and the illustrations really pulled me in. I liked how most of the illustrations were pretty dark, and went along with the story.

Great art. By far the best war of the worlds graphic novel I've seen. It's perhaps up there with the best graphic novel art I've seen. The story is well told and whilst it's not HG Wells it adds a different take on the story that has allowed my son and I to enjoy the story all over again.

5.0 out of 5 stars Gelungene Adaption!
Reviewed in Germany on April 9, 2019
