The Peter & Charlie Trilogy: The Lord Won't Mind, One for the Gods, and Forth into Light Kindle Edition

4.2 4.2 out of 5 stars 67 ratings

A passionate love story unfolds between two young men in the 1930s in this “wildly sexy” New York Times bestseller and its two sequels (The Advocate).

The Peter & Charlie Trilogy—with its explicit sex scenes and positive affirmation of coming out—is “one of gaydom’s great guilty pleasures” (
The Advocate). All three groundbreaking works of gay fiction are collected here, including The Lord Won’t Mind, which stayed on the New York Times bestseller list for sixteen weeks.

The Lord Won’t Mind: Charlie Mills wants to be a good boy. That way, his grandmother will give him all the gifts and money he could want. But remaining in her good graces as he heads off to college means finding a nice girl to marry. He wasn’t counting on Peter Martin stepping off a train and into his life. The passion between the two men is undeniable, yet making it last will come at a great price—and there are those who will do anything to make them pay.

One for the Gods: It’s ten years later, and Peter and Charlie are shipping off to the sunny Mediterranean for a little business and a lot of pleasure. While traveling from Saint-Tropez to Athens to Mykonos, they meet a sexy French playboy who’s eager to make waves. Suddenly, Peter and Charlie find themselves on a voyage of self-discovery that could change their relationship forever.

Forth Into the Light: It’s no surprise Peter and Charlie—two men with the looks of Adonis and Narcissus—have chosen a Greek island for their home. But their lives are far from tranquil: The village is rampant with deceit and lust; beguiling Martha is plotting to steal Charlie away from Peter; and passionate, young Jeff repeatedly tests the couple’s fidelity. The tale of Peter and Charlie’s love has spanned years and the globe, but it could all come to a crashing end on these lush shores.

Review

Praise for the Peter & Charlie Trilogy
“Outrageous, addictive, perversely sexy . . . The closest thing gay people have to the fat, juicy romance novels that housewives have been devouring for years.” —Charles Busch, author of
Vampire Lesbians of Sodom and Psycho Beach Party, on One for the Gods

If sex bother's you, don't read it. But that's NOT what makes up the major part of the trilogy, it's the love between two men who care for one another.

The understanding of what I was readung came upon me slowly. It's not just a love story of two men falling in love; it's a masterpiece! It's an enthralling journey of the understanding between two men in love discovering who they are: individually and as a loving couple, and as a force of nature. It's a 930 page turner! I hope young gay men of the 21st century become aware it, and read it. I read it was being made into a movie, Do yourself a favor: read it first! It's a trilogy encompassing 20 years. I cried at the end, only because I couldn't read about tweny more years of their story.

I've read these three books when they first came out and I was impressed by the emotion and love within these pages. Everyone should read this. Yes, there are sections of lovemaking but not in a bad or disgusting way. It makes you feel good reading it. I am a lady that enjoys love like this and let me tell you Gordon Merrick knew how to express love. I am not disgusted by this read, in fact, I recommend it. You will never forget it and read it over and over and over again. I read somewhere there was to be a movie about Peter and Charlie. Oh my goodness, what are you waiting for? Do It!!

I read this series almost 40 years ago, and it was beautifully written and deeply compassionate. It's was way, way ahead of its time. I think it set a new standard of excellence in gay fiction.

amazing author. writes in a way that makes me hurt, laugh, love, die inside when the characters do. when a book can make me cry for a lost love and I'm not the one in love, that's a good book.
