"This was a really enjoyable story and one which held my interest throughout. The characters were endearing and the storyline rewarding. It was lighthearted but intriguing, especially the legal/law firm side to the story."

"What a sweet and unsuspecting surprise, by my rock goddess Jade C. Jamison. This was something new and out of the norm, if you're a fan of Jade's, but she suckered me in, and I loved it!"
―KA Graham (author & blogger, Twisted Book Promotions)

“When it comes to writing both slow burn and explicit erotica Mrs Jamison is the master.”

About the Author

“Nobody puts Baby in a corner.” While you’re more likely to see Jade headbanging instead of Dirty Dancing, she—like Baby—won’t be put in a corner…or a box. So even though you can’t really stick her books in one genre, you could say she mostly writes steamy Contemporary Romance—and, while you’re at it, you’ll notice in her stories that Jade freaking loves Colorado, hard music, coffee, bad words, and CHOCOLATE!!! And so do her characters.

Oh, and there’s always a glimmer of hope…because if life doesn’t have that, what’s the damn point?

It may be a fake fiancé book, but the praise is very real. Jade C. Jamison just keeps getting better, even when venturing into new territory (but please don't give up the rockstars altogether!)

Erica Larson is a fantastic heroine - fairly content with her life and definitely content with who she is on her own, without a man. She's a lawyer with a prominent Denver firm, one she had worked at for several years before she passed the bar a year prior. She knew she had dues to pay, but was feeling overwhelmed by the tediousness of never ending research and was thinking of heading home to Gunnison to try her own luck, but then one of the owner's son's offered her a proposition too good to resist.

Brock Ford is the black sheep of the Ford family, and to keep his life the way he likes it, he knows he has to do something drastic, and quickly, as his father just announced his retirement....and his father has made it quite clear the business will be left only to sons who are family men. When he stumbles on Erica making coffee, he just may have found the perfect solution.

What makes this book stand out so much is the way the characters learn about themselves through each other. I also can't stress enough how nice it is to see a strong (and delightfully sassy) heroine who is not desperately seeking a man. She is married to her career, and while marriage may be a pleasant concept for the future, she is not actively seeking a relationship or dreaming of it. She is enjoying her life, as an adult, on her own, before she moves on to the next stages. I think this is such an important part of real life that I would like to see more of it.

Highly recommended.

I really enjoyed this story and its concept. It was refreshingly different and drew me in straight away with the whole law firm storyline.

Whilst it irked me somewhat that the female character had to pretend to be engaged in order to get the job she was already qualified to do, I did enjoy the power struggle as both characters set about achieving their ultimate target: one, the right to take over from his father when he retired (Brock), and two, to become a practicing lawyer and no longer a researcher (Erica).

Both characters were easy to enjoy especially when Brock realised that Erica wasn’t someone to be trifled with. Whilst agreeing, in principle, to Brock’s “proposal”, Erica still had reservations but determined to acquire the job that she had worked tirelessly for, she put her morals aside and set about assisting Brock with his subterfuge. Erica wasn’t about to sleep her way into her dream job though and made it clear to Brock that this was a hands-off agreement. Brock, on the other hand, is also singularly determined to get what he wants and to do that, he needs to make his engagement as realistic as possible in front of his retiring father, and his brothers. Whilst a casual arm across the shoulders and a kiss on the cheek may seem innocent enough, it’s beyond what Erica signed up for as she repeatedly tells Brock. The only problem is that her body is starting to respond to Brock’s closeness and whilst her mind is determined to keep him at a distance, she starts to enjoy the odd moment of closeness.

As expected, and despite Erica’s best intentions, she soon starts to see the man behind the business suit and when away from work, Erica realises that Brock is a man she could, and does, fall for. Despite her softening towards Brock, Erica managed to maintain her feisty determination and no-nonsense attitude, which I really appreciated.

This was a really enjoyable story and one which held my interest throughout. The characters were endearing and the storyline rewarding. It was lighthearted but intriguing, especially the legal/law firm side to the story.

Big fan of Jade's rocker books and this is a lighter story. But, Jade is always fun to read. No big twists or surprises but a quick read.

I loved reading Charade. This book is just shy of 200 pages so it is a fairly fast book to read.

Erica Larson is a new lawyer and she is working in an entry level position. She meets Brock Ford in the law firm’s breakroom. Brock is trying to move up in his father’s law firm since, his father is retiring and leaving it to his 3 sons. His father left one condition that the sons all had to be married if they were to inherit his law firm. Two of his sons are married but, Brock the youngest son isn’t. And, the story goes on from there.

I was happy to see that Erica was a strong woman and didn’t take anything she wasn’t willing to take off of Brock. She has her values and she wasn’t going to take anything less of value (meaning character) from Brock.

I don’t know if anyone has read Jade C. Jamison’s bio or not. I love that she kind of has her own genre that she doesn’t seem to fit into being labeled romance, erotica, suspense and women’s fiction. Jade’s genre is good very good whatever you choose to call it! I also would love to take a creative writing class from her.

I give Charade 4.5 stars. I felt it was a little slow getting started but, once it was going it was full steam ahead.

I received this ARC book for an honest review. I really liked Charade, as with all of Jade's books. It definitely has a different feel than her usual writing style but I still liked it. Chase was the lead male character and Erica was the lead female. She works for his firm and new attorney in his family's law practice. His father was getting ready to retire and was handing over the reigns to his 3 sons provided they were married and settled. There were times that he was a real jerk to her but luckily she didn't let him off the hook. He needed a stand in to fool his family and she wanted to upgrade her status in the company. It seemed like this happens a lot in these type of fake fiance books. I feel like the ending was a little rushed, lilke there could have been more of them getting together before they fell for each other. Overall, it a quick easy read and as with all of Jade's books that I have read, well written. I really appreciate when there is a good editor to catch grammatical errors and spelling errors! I would recommend this book as a cute story with HEA.

5.0 out of 5 stars A really enjoyable and well written book

4.5 stars of fun and fakery
This is a lighter read than other books I've read by this author, but it is still a well written story that I totally enjoyed and read in one sitting. It's what I'd call a 'feel good' read, one to turn to when you don't want lots of angst or darkness but when you still want good writing and to be entertained.

I want to say that the ending felt rushed, but that wouldn't be true. It was just Brock's volte-face seemed very abrupt, he'd had a few prior twinges of conscience but more over his treatment of Erica than his attitude per se.

There were many times I really didn't like Brock, thankfully Erica agreed with me at those times. I'm convinced this was a deliberate move by the author, sounds an odd one to make but somehow it worked. He's clearly a conflicted character and seemed to be seeking approval, without realising it and this sometimes means he forgets his humanity. Despite his almost Jekyll-and-Hyde personality, I could understand why Brock was like that and did find both him and Erica to be believable characters. In fact Erica was a very strong and genuine heroine, so likeable and 'real'.

This didn't have the feel of other 'fake fiancee' books I've read. It was so much better and avoided some of the typical cliches. The plots main focus is on the couple themselves, but with some time spent getting to know their family too. The 'deal breaker' comes in a totally unexpected form but again fitted beautifully into the story, with unexpected consequences and atypical reactions to those consequences.

Would I recommend this book to friends and family? Yes, I would. I would also buy it for them. I recommend it to you too, but sorry I'm not offering to buy it for you!

I received a copy of this book from the author in exchange for an honest review. I also purchased a copy.

I'm not a fan of legal/lawyer books on a whole but I am a fan of Jade C Jamison's so I knew that it would be a great story. I wasn't disappointed. I loved the characters, Erica and Brock. The plot was light and well paced. I really enjoyed the story, it was the perfect miserable afternoon cheer up read!
