Best children' s book that I have read
5 out of 5 stars
Best children' s book that I have read
This is the first book that I have liked devoted to children dealing with Alzheimer’s/dementia. It has some great information without going over their head and they present it in a loving fashion. This is not a book for a very young child but a book for those who can understand the basics of the disease, I would think age 8 or so. Matthew loved hanging out with his grandma, she was patient, loving, and she taught him many things. Grandma called Matthew, Johnny one day and that’s when he noticed Grandma changing. Grandma started not feeling good, their routine began to change, and grandma started to forget where she was. Something was wrong. It was time that Matthew’s parents explain to him, that Grandma had Alzheimer’s. I liked the relationship between Matthew and Grandma and how the author provides this loving environment between them. As the parents explain Alzheimer’s to Matthew, they don’t provide too many details or get too technical, but they give him some information to help explain what’s been happening. Matthew’s relationship with his Grandma changes but that’s okay as Grandma is changing but so is Matthew. The illustrations were not my favorite, they were okay. 4.5 stars

Great resource for helping children understand the changes they notice when a loved one shows signs of dementia. I was a teenager when Papa walked around the block and couldn't find his way home. Nana called my mother in a panic. Fortunately he was home when we arrived at their house: a woman on the next block noticed him sitting on her curb, gave him some water, and drove him home. Sometimes it takes a village, and a child is very much a part of that village. They need resources like this to help them navigate the waters of this journey without being afraid and pulling away. Well done!

Alzheimer's disease can be difficult to understand, even for adults. The simple approach offered in this book is a great way for children to be able to connect with loved ones suffering from this disease. The relationship between the grandmother and grandson captures the essence of grandparent-grandchild relationships, and the illustrations are colorful and beautiful. Recommended for any family with a loved one suffering from Alzheimer's disease!

This book is about a sad topic but it explained very well about the Alzheimer's disease. The pictures are very entertaining and captivating. We were drawn right into the book with the exciting story. Now I know more about this and I can help explain it to my younger brother.

I bought this for my kindergartener to help him understand what is going on with his Grandma. He was starting to notice things and ask a lot of questions about his Grandma. I also bought several other books. This was by far the best. It explains why and what the future will hold. I am very pleased with this purchase and will help him understand everything.

Font is extremely small. Description lists reading level grade 1 to 2 but I believe it’s more like reading level grade 3 to 5. Other than that, it’s well written and informative for children.

I read this to my son who believed Grandad no longer liked him and to help him to understand why hus favourite man was so cross all the time.
Apart from my being in tears because it was such a beautiful book, it really helped him to understand that Grandad never meant to be so angry at him; that he was just frustrated and confused.
My son really began to absorb the situation and it’s really helped.

The book is well illustrated and well made but I was disappointed with some of the words cos they just referring to Alzheimer’s and I thought the book was about Dementia in general which isn’t all Alzheimer’s related, so I am a bit miffed cos my sons Grandma has vascular dementia and it’s not the same and it doesn’t help him
