Child of Destiny Kindle Edition
The Princess and the Frog meets The Vampire diaries in this epic tale of forbidden love.
"If you don't do this spell, Charlotte is going to die!" Leo said looming over her.
"You think I don't know that!?" she huffed, "I told you, I can't do it. It requires 'passion acquired in a lover's arms' and I. Don't. Have. That!"
Mya was a fledgling virgin witch.
Leo, a faithless cad! Or diamond in the rough, depending on who you asked.
The circumstances are not ideal.
Magic MUST be performed or Leo's girlfriend dies. If she dies, that's the end of Leo's Cinderella story.
So what is a wanna-be Disney Princess to do?
Everything he must, obvi. If that includes a quickie with a reluctant witch, who can blame him?
Charlotte. That's who.
But she's dying right at the moment so she doesn't really get a say.
Wait, but what about Mya? Is she just gonna roll over like a good mouse and let herself be used as a means to Leo's ends?
That's just for starters.
Join Leo and Mya in this explosive journey of betrayal, teen angst, intrigue and witchery as they embark on an epic journey with fate as their driver, to discover the most powerful magic that ever existed.
True love.

About the author

Annemarie Musawale is an eternally curious single parent of one extremely intelligent teenager. She lives in Nairobi Kenya with her laptop and copious cups of tea. Occasionally her son comes home from boarding school to visit. She enjoys long walks (theoretically) maybe not on the beach because well..it's far and lots of spicy delicious tea. She also enjoys reading everything as long as it's interesting, surprising and enjoyable. She hopes that she writes the same types of books too.

- Reviewed in the United States on July 16, 2016A very unique but compelling love story. Even though the characters where young, the romance was timeless. This is a book that can be enjoyed by all ages. The story was very well edited, the characters fully developed and the story flowed. I highly encourage romance readers to give this book a try. I found in refreshing in a sea of " millionaire " lead characters. Very well done!
- Reviewed in the United States on May 15, 2016I read this book on a whim and am glad I did. The story is based on May and Leo, two teens who were forced together due to unfortunately circumstances based on the aiding Leo's girlfriend Charlotte. The story was fasted paced and entertaining. Simply we'll done.
- Reviewed in the United States on December 18, 2016This is not what I thought it would be based on the Kindle Goodreads blurb. Oddly enough, if I had read the blurb for the Smashwords edition, I might have been more prepared for this story, but still think the shock would have hit pretty hard. This is YA in every sense of the word, but the content is not. The story is about teenagers, talking and acting like teenagers with all their pettiness and drama, but it’s also very sexually explicit and kinda violent. Again, not what I was expecting.
First; I did not finish the book thus my rating. I fully admit that if I had finished it, my overall impression might be quite different. With that said, I stopped reading it at 10% because I didn’t feel comfortable with the content and removed it from my currently reading list. Then I read some more, trying to give the quite-interesting storyline the benefit of the doubt.
Second; after 34% I stopped reading altogether because of the continued compromising sexual content. Part of me admits that if this had been written about adults, the sexual content would not have bothered me so much, but there are other elements to this content that still made me uncomfortable (regardless of character age).
Third; I really liked the premise of this story and am a bit sad that I’ll never really know what happens and how the title truly fits the story, but not enough to keep reading. As I read the story and tried to relate to the characters, I realized that just wasn’t going to happen. It’s not that these characters aren’t relatable to someone; they just aren’t relatable to me. There are just some things that I don’t have a tolerance for in real life, so seeing it in my fiction is no different. While some readers crave stories of unexplained instant attraction and raw repetitive sexual descriptions, it’s just not my cup of tea.
Fourth; the writing of the author is really good and engaging, which made it all the harder not to continue the story. She knows what she’s doing and is even pushing the limits of her genre. There is an odd, dual point of view, in one very intense scene that would have delighted me had the content not disturbed me. Plus, I really do feel like the story is going somewhere amazing, I just don’t want to sift through all the drama to get to it.
Fifth; I liked the idea that the two main characters would be star-crossed somehow. While part of me was glad to discover a racial element to the story, I couldn’t stay happy about it once I saw how the relationships in this story were developing. I wanted to like the main character for being an outcast and for having special power, but I just couldn’t respect her after a while.
Lastly, I think this is probably the perfect story for many other readers. Readers who don’t mind sexual activity in teens as a reflection of reality, readers who embrace hard subject matters and read through the drama to accept the conclusion of the character’s trials, readers who don’t shy away from controversial and taboo content- perhaps these are the readers who will love this book. Proud to admit, that ain’t me.
I will say that I'm going to try some of this author’s other work after connecting with her online and reading some of her blog. She has other books that are supposed to be quite different from this one.
