Editorial Reviews
Review
The richness of Muir's writing roots deeper into the terrain than any other wilderness writer known to me. (Los Angeles Times)
As more and more of us grow aghast at what we have done to the world we started with, Muir's reverence and devotion will seem keenly germane, and our regret may be transmuted into a fight for the future. (Edward Hoagland)
From the Back Cover

Joining a crew of shepherds, Muir worked tirelessly, not only supporting the efforts of the group, but vocalizing the need for environmental stewardship.

- Reviewed in the United States on February 14, 2019I first read this book in the '60s after I had already visited Yosemite. This new edition is a very nice piece of work, and it is really a great introduction to John Muir. For one who has traveled extensively in Yosemite territory it is a pleasure to see that country through Muir's eyes 100 or more years earlier.
- Reviewed in the United States on June 9, 2018Great to read Muir's initial impressions of the Sierra. He references specific landmarks which I found fun in that I'll be visiting Yosemite. It's like a cool look back at the Yosemite wilderness of the 1800's. If you like John Muir, you'll like this.
- Reviewed in the United States on December 23, 2023As always Amazon is on time. Haven’t read it all but John Muir loves nature and the simple life I think
- Reviewed in the United States on November 30, 2013This is one of the best books I have ever read--and I've read a lot. Muir writes about nature on such an elevated, inspired and inspiring level, it transports the reader if the reader allows herself to sink into the text. Deeply religious without being associated with any religious doctrine. Truly a masterpiece in literature. I haven't read the book in some time; I buy it these days to give as a gift.
- Reviewed in the United States on May 3, 2018I have always wanted to read Muir. This style of writing is not for everyone - Muir goes to great lengths to use his senses to describe everything he encounters. I found those descriptions enlightening, detailed, and exhilarating. Some might find it monotonous, and I would understand that.
- Reviewed in the United States on August 6, 2018Absolutely wonderful read... John Muir was a man of his times, with his emotions near the surface... his love for "The Range Of Light" shows through... and it all starts from a genuine love of nature....
- Reviewed in the United States on January 16, 2014John Muir is a personal hero of mine. What he's done for hikers and climbers is to great to put into words. However, this book is dull and hard to follow. Thanks for everything you did John and you are very poetic, but your stories can be hard to follow.

Per quel prezzo il libro va bene Unico neo le immagini e le riproduzioni sono piccole spesso molto poco nitide e minute

5.0 out of 5 stars A Glimpse into a Bygone Time
If you are interested in John Muir then this is a fascinating account of his first foray into the wilderness. The only disappointing thing is that the book has not been properly proof-read for the Kindle Edition and some words run into each other. Surprising in this day and age of spellcheck.
