I've mentioned this before. I am such a sucker for stories that start when they are children. I love reading how they were when younger and the relationships that were formed early. into adulthood.

This was between 4 and 5 stars for me because I didn't care for the H and the mixed signals he gave the h. Granted we know why he formed his opinion on love, but it still didn't endear himself to me until near the end. I went with the higher rating, because I did enjoy the h and the banter was comical at times. I felt the author missed an opportunity for more drama by not having the villain appear when she travels. There was still suspense and some sadness at times, that is why our spirited heroine saved the day with her fire.

There is mildly described lovemaking, several times outside of marriage, but not vulgar or erotic. By this time I did like the H so the lovemaking for me was filled with passion.

We do get HEA but it isn't a smooth road. Even though this is part of a series, it is a stand alone.and no cliffhanger. I would like to read the next in the series, because I did enjoy the friend in this one. I read too many books, and will wait for a sale. I own many books by this author and she does know how to bring depth to her character's. The Highlands are not a major part of this story, more of a slow romance, no battles. (ljb)

Colin and Fiona. It’s a story of friendship becoming love. A the start Fiona annoyed me, but she became more likeable as the story went on. It is a cute enjoyable story. I didn’t just didn’t think it was as good as the first, but I am still looking forward to the next.

Second in the A Laird to Love series brings us Colin and Fiona who were introduced in "My Enemy, My Earl". The two had grown up together and were the best of friends, but times change as they are now adults. Fiona is being pressured by her father to marry and chose a suitor. There are several problems though! Her heart is already taken by Colin and she cannot find any feelings for any other suitor. Plus she will not be a biddable wife which is what most of them want! Colin has grown up being taught by his father that to love would destroy him so only marry someone that he will not feel strong affection. But Colin has the same problem as Fiona. He is having a hard time resisting his best friend that has grown into a beautiful strong minded woman! There are many factors at play in this story that is brought to life in the characters and emotions. The twist and turns will keep you turning the pages and as in any Tammy Andresen story, you will be fully engaged!!

I was very excited to read this book, Heart of a Highlander! I was introduced to Lady Fiona McDougal’s character in the first book of the A Laird to Love series and I was curious to see what had actually happened between her and her longtime friend and neighbor Colin Campbell. I will admit that I was not in love with Fiona’s character in the first book because she seemed extremely juvenile but while reading this book I grew to like her character very much.

Fiona was always a free spirit who could give as good as she got, a regular tomboy, and it wasn’t until she was unaccounted for during an entire night that her father decided that he needed to take matters into his own hands. He decided that Fiona needed a husband and if she was not going to choose one for herself, then he was going to choose for her. What he did not know, and something that Fiona had only recently admitted to herself, was that she had chosen a man that she wanted as a husband only he was very reluctant.

Colin had grown up with Fiona and can’t remember a time when she was in his life. She had always been a good friend to Colin and had been a wonderful distraction when his father was ill. Colin’s father would fall into times of apathy and it was during these times that he would lament the passing of his first wife and instruct his sons to never marry for love. It was ingrained into Colin that love equaled disaster and so he knew without a doubt that he could never marry Fiona as his feelings for her were definitely beyond that of friendship.

With Colin determined never to marry a woman he had feelings for and Fiona determined that she needed a marriage that was filled with love, it seemed that these two characters were doomed to be nothing more than start crossed lovers. With pressure from Fiona’s father, Fiona had begun the awful tasks of accepting suitors and despite his strong feelings against a marriage to Fiona, Colin could not stop the warring of feelings that were taking place inside of him. Was he truly going to be able to let her go or maybe, just maybe, was his father really wrong about marriage?

Heart of a Highlander is a cute addition to its series! The friends-to-lovers romance trope was very well done and I loved the antics that went on in this story. I could really feel the conflicting feelings that was taking place within Colin and I was glad that someone stepped in to offer him advice that helped him settle his heart. There was plenty of humor as well as sweet romance throughout this story. Everything that went on with Fiona’s suitors just cracked me up! There is so much to love about Heart of a Highlander and I highly recommend that you get your hands on a copy today!

This review is based on a complimentary book I received from Aurora Publicity. It is an honest and voluntary review. The complimentary receipt of it in no way affected my review or rating.

    💋💋
I do like Tammy’s books , this is a great story , it moves back and forth between the two main characters, just when you think you've cracked it and they are made for each other, it throws another curve ball , and off it goes again .
A real pleasure to read .

4.0 out of 5 stars An entertaining read

Fiona has loved Colin for years and although Colin has feelings for Fiona, he doesn’t intend to act on them due to the advice of his father. Fiona’s father has decided its time for Fiona to marry and takes her to meet potential suitors. However, Fiona is only interested in marrying Fiona. There are quite a few misunderstandings on both sides as both Colin and Fiona’s are quite strong characters. This was an enjoyable read and I look forward to reading the rest in the series.
