The Drum: The 12th Day Kindle Edition

4.7 out of 5 stars 331 ratings

On the 12th day of Christmas, will love overcome a lifetime of bad luck?

Behind her back, they call her Bad Luck Penny. After being twice widowed before the age of thirty, misfortune follows her all the way to Colorado, culminating in humiliation when the third groom skips town on the day they’re to be wed.

Mayor Charles Hardt will do anything to save Noelle, the town he founded, as long as it doesn’t involve taking a wife. But then a jilted bride shows up at his door, begging for a ride out of town on the day before the town must deliver twelve married couples as part of a deal to secure Noelle's survival.

Under no circumstances will Charlie allow the last bride to escape, even if Penny is certain Noelle can’t take any more of her bad luck. For that matter, neither can Charlie...

From the Author

The mail-order bride phenomenon in 19th century America spawned personal advertisements, matrimonial newspapers, and matchmaking services.  The inspiration for Twelve Days of Christmas Mail-Order Brides, however, came from the brilliant mind of USA Today bestselling author Caroline Lee--after a dream!

Our series is set in the fictional town of Noelle, which is loosely based on the actual history of Leadville, Colorado. That gold mining community had nearly petered out until silver was discovered, almost by accident. After that, the town exploded, becoming one of the richest and wildest western American towns in existence at the end of the 19th century.

I'm so grateful to Caroline Lee for inviting me along on this journey, and what a fun trip we've taken together, along with ten other bestselling authors. I've thoroughly enjoyed brainstorming this series and then seeing how each author took their couple's love story and blended it into the overall tale about a little town named after a baby.

I hope you'll enjoy reading about Noelle and the twelve couples determined to save it.

Merrily,
E.E. Burke

This is the final book in the series, and it did not disappoint. Just like all the others, the characters carried through to this book. I also like that with this final story we finally learned how the mining town of Noelle came to be and who was the person leaving the surprise ornaments on the tree in the saloon. I am truly sorry that the series is at an end and would love to see some of the authors write more about this town and its people. Enjoy!

Penny Jackson is determined to leave Noelle and take her bad luck with her. She turns to the only person believes can help her - Charlie Hardt. Charlie has thought this bridal scheme foolish from the very beginning. Still he helped Silas write a letter wooing his would-be-bride. Everything comes full circle in this final installment. Will they be able to save the town of Noelle?

I've thoroughly enjoyed this entire series and found the ending to be very satisfying. It is hard to say good-bye to the town of Noelle.

This is the third in the series that I have read, I have read many of this author's books before as well-I liked the book but I did not love this one..
There was allot more going on with this plot than the others I had read in this series-about half way through the book though-I really did not care to finish it but I paid for the book so I did finish. Turned out to be a good ending for the book and the series.

I loved this series! The authors were great in developing all of the characters. I loved all the stories from the beginning to the end. From a suffragette to a Chinese acrobat. From a preacher who wears a gun to scarred one eye sheriff, each character were wonderful and the stories made me laugh and cry. So glad they are continuing the stories through the Brides of Noelle.

E.E. Burke does an incredible job wrapping up this sweet, mysterious, romantic, holiday series. This is the best 12 days of Christmas ever and I love how all of the loose ends tie up beautifully in this grand finale. I'm amazed at the talent of each and every author in the series and I'm totally impressed with how all 12 books connect and interact with each other. You won't want to miss a single one!

What a 12th Book! I totally relate to Penny (I struck out twice) I of course was "cursed" . So when Charlie won't take "no" I cried because I never found a Charlie - but I am so thrilled Penny and the wonderful town "Noel" did. This book ends an incredible 12 days of reading and a great Little Christmas present ever! Watch out for the epilogue.

Loved it! Loved the whole series and sorry to see it all end. I enjoyed myself thoroughly the month of December, through all the hectic shopping, baking, etc, by sitting quietly a few hours each day and traveling back through the years to a little place called Noelle. I cared about each couple and following each one to their HEA. I recommend this one and the other eleven. JudyE

Widow Penelope Jackson has agreed to travel to Noelle, Colorado to marry a stranger in order to help save the town. On the eve of her wedding, her intended leaves town convinced that Penny is bad luck. It doesn’t help that Penny believes the same about herself. Noelle’s mayor and mine owner, Charlie Hardt, doesn’t share that opinion at all. Getting Penny to believe him is another matter all together.

I loved The Drum. The propensity for bad things to happen while Penny is around would make anyone believe that she is cursed. I enjoyed watching Charlie chase and breakdown Penny’s defenses. The bathroom scene in the “cathouse” is hilarious. For me, more important than their budding romance is how they saved one another.

If you’re looking for a sweet and charming Christmas love story, look no further than The Drum. I promise you won’t be disappointed.

5.0 out of 5 stars The 12 Days of Christmas series ( The Drum )

Brilliantly written the last of the 12 Days of Christmas story. I loved the two main characters Charlie and Penny how they were portrayed it made me laugh., where she seemed to be running from him and him chasing her. Penny thinking she was bad luck after being married twice and both her husband's dying shortly afterwards. when things went wrong when Penny was around she would blame herself although I must admits she seemed accident prone. I loved the way all the stories tied together bringing the married couples in Noelle to a happy ending. Charlie Harldt wasn't looking for love in the first book he tries to choke the Reverent Hammond his friend for ordering him a bride but I think after answering Penny's letter for Silas and seeing her photo he was already hook on Penny and no other women stood a chance.

What a lovely end to a lovely series. Penny and Charlie and their trials and tribulations made me chuckle and huff with impatience in equal measure, finally with a happy ending though. What an entertaining series of books this has been, with an enormous amount of work going on between the authors to make sure that all the stories added up properly. Great work all.
