Princesses Don't Wear Glasses Kindle Edition

4.5 out of 5 stars 23 ratings

Seeing is believing in yourself! “[A] light, heartwarming story . . . The themes of self-esteem and feeling different are very relatable” (Online Book Club).

The concept for
Princesses Don’t Wear Glasses is to communicate to kids that it’s perfectly acceptable to be unique or different. Geared towards the modern girl for building confidence and positive self-image, it shines light on a young princess who thinks that she’s supposed to look a certain way. Illustrated with colorful imagery, the story is driven by the princess’s amazing imagination and she eventually changes her attitude towards being a princess that wears glasses. Princesses can wear glasses, and even braces. They don’t have to look or be one certain way and all girls can be princesses no matter what.

“A change in appearance can be difficult for a child to adjust to. Many children have to wear glasses, braces, or other type of health aid. This can create feelings of insecurity and anxiety . . . [A] sweet story about a common issue.” —

Tia Cherie Dammen grew up in a small town in Northern Wyoming called Lovell. Her mother taught her at a young age about being creative, animated and the power of using her imagination. Cherie was actually quite the tom boy growing up. You would usually find her playing in giant dirt piles with trucks and lots of mud. She was never really a girly girl. So the fact that her first book is about a Princess is somewhat out of character for her. She spent a lot of her young life playing outside creating imaginary games and going on interesting adventures.

Cherie began writing in Elementary school, where she wrote and won awards for some short stories. Even though Cherie was Dyslexic, that didn't stop her. Now as an adult, she writes everyday. The feel of a freshly sharpened pencil on a stencil pad is exhilarating for her. Putting words down on paper is how she expresses herself. When Cherie is in her creative element, she can go anywhere and do anything. Imaginary stories will sometimes spill right out of her with little to no effort. She will take an interesting thought and instantly turn it into a thrilling, enchanting and magical story.

Cherie and her family thoroughly enjoy country living in colorful Colorado. She lives in a small town called Elizabeth, Colorado, with her husband Tony and son Gunnar. Gunnar is 12 years old and is an inspiration to a few of Cherie's upcoming stories. Their oldest son Dalton is all grown up and is now creating his own adventures. Cherie wasn't blessed with any girls. She has often been quoted saying "since I never had any girls of my own, I live vicariously through the strong female characters I create."

Cherie's book is important, throwing off stereo types that girls can't be this or that, they can!
