HEY, U UP? (For a Serious Relationship): How to Turn Your Booty Call into Your Emergency Contact Kindle Edition

4.8 out of 5 stars 208 ratings

Humorous dating advice from two married comedians, former CollegeHumor writers and stars of the Hot Date tv series.

Who better to write a very humorous manual about evolving modern relationships than two CollegeHumor veterans and viral-video stars who happen to be a real-life husband-and-wife team? With candor, bite, and charm,
HEY, U UP? takes readers on an eight-chapter journey through the trials of hooking up to the foibles of marriage, and combines the authors’ prescriptive advice with the unfolding story of their own relationship. HEY, U UP? tackles all the milestones of relationships today—both glorious and embarrassing—with sections ranging from “How to Ask Someone Out After You’ve Slept with Them” all the way to “Establish Your Family as the Christmas Family by Turning Your Significant Other Against Their Own Parents.” In addition to the laugh-out-loud essays, lists, questionnaires, and even flowcharts further enliven the pages.

I purchased this book as a way to support Murph and Emily because I absolutely love them on Not Another D&D Podcast (NADD Pod). Given how funny that podcast is, I assumed that I would find their satirical relationship advice equally amusing. I was not disappointed. I bought this book primarily to be my "court book." I work as lawyer and often have long periods of downtime between cases, so I need something to fill those time periods. I thought the structure of this book would be perfect given how short the individual sections are and that it does not have a narrative within which one needs to immerse himself and where interruptions do not become frustrating.

Unfortunately, the book was so funny and enjoyable that I had to read it at home because I could not keep a straight face in court, and, on at least one occasion, let out an audible snicker that may have drawn unwanted attention to myself. In addition to the humor, "Hey, U Up?" has some useful dating wisdom if you're willing to look past the amusing snark. I highly recommend this book to fans of satire, NADD Pod fans and fans of clever writing.

Also, since I am such a fan of NADD pod, I highly recommend it to anyone, but especially nerds like myself who are RPG fans.

This book may not be for everyone, but the dry wit and sarcasm dripping from these pages is perfect in my opinion. Brian and Emily have actually managed to put some very sage advice in despite it seeming like terrible advice on the surface, and i think it works! Give this book a try!

My favorite part of reading this amazing and hilarious book was how many weird, stupid and funny things I thought were exclusive to my marriage are apparently common enough that it's worth talking about in a relationship advice book.

For all that this is marketed as a comedy, this book deals in real $#1t. Between all the wonderful goofs is a lot of love and a ton of practical advice for thriving in a committed relationship.

    I love this book.

This book was really fun to read. The authors tackled everything from dating apps and weird faux personalities everyone takes on to “cool girl” their love interest to moving in together and dealing with planning a wedding. Sort of heartfelt, mostly funny. The authors’ Collegehumor roots are apparent with the relative ease with which they riff on typically difficult subjects. I definitely recommend it!

Recently, I've gone on a huge Dimension 20 kick, which lead to a CollegeHumor obsession. It didn't take long after that for me to discover this book, as Emily and Murph have consistently been my favorite in nearly everything they do. I knew I had to read this book, and I sure as hell wasn't disappointed! And neither will you be should you give it a chance!

Funny, heartfelt, and informative, HEY, U UP? is the perfect book for us single people looking to make that cute stranger our BETROTHED. (A reference to one of the funniest bits in the book. Read it to understand the reference!)

I bought this book as a joke, thinking it would be a fun read to help pass the time. But ALAS! IT WAS SO MUCH MORE! It tough me how to love, how to feel, how to live! It put it all in wording I could understand, complete with maps, quests, and ventures (not adventures mind you, apparently that word is copyrighted,) and guided me along the path to get a beautiful dark elven wife! Sure, maybe it didn't work in real life, but I'm sure it would if I could build up the courage to look at a girl, but man, it made me such a smooth talker in D&D that my DM had no choice but to boost my Charisma by a whopping ten, and introduce a character for me to woo. This book has made wonders happen in my life and it will for you too. It's also a better purchase than sugar free Haribo gummy bears, as those will give you the runs worse than all of the volcanoes in the nine realms! This will help cure that though. Don't ask me how, it just does. Batteries not included.

I heard about this book on NADDPOD a while back and wanted to give it a shot. It's so funny and I can really relate to all the wedding bits since I'm currently planning one for myself.

A humorous satirical dive into the twists and turns of modern relationships.
Manages to balance a consistent level of humour, mockery and relatable scenarios exaggerated to hilarity with a sprinkling of the writers' own tale of romance woven in.
Hard to put the book down and would certainly recommend for anyone looking for a good light read.
