About the author
Nurys is a talent management and staffing expert with 20 years of experience connecting employers with talent and professionals with careers in the nonprofit sector. A native of Dominican Republic, she began her career in executive search and recruiting in New York City.
In 2006, she founded Careers In Nonprofits, now among the leading nonprofit staffing firms in the U.S. Careers In Nonprofits serves both the employer and jobseeker market in Atlanta, Chicago, Washington, D.C. and San Francisco focusing on a range of careers from entry-level to executive positions and ever-expanding temp-to-permanent market.
Nurys’ insider’s perspective on the workplace expands to the private sector. She is frequently invited to conduct career mapping workshops by employers and industry associations, and shares career-building and job search advice through her online column Career Q&A with Nurys.
In summer 2012, Nurys launched the “I Love My Job” campaign to encourage jobseekers to “really go after what they want to do,” accepting only those jobs that are in line with their career goals.
Nurys has a master’s degree in labor relations and human resources management from Baruch College - City University of New York, and a bachelor's degree in public administration. Nurys is active in the Association of Fundraising Professionals (AFP), the Society for Human Resource Management (SHRM), the American Society of Association Executives (ASAE), and the Association Forum of Chicagoland.
She resides with her husband and two young children in Northern Virginia.

This book is also an excellent communication tool for a couple to plan their future together. My wife said, “Upon finishing the book, I am challenged to create the map that comes from my heart, just as demonstrated by this author!” We have recently retired from our corporate jobs, and are beginning a whole new life as of this year. We really appreciate the practical steps in the clearly defined order outlined in this book. We want to begin a career map at this point in our lives and see this tool aiding our path to nonprofit volunteer work.
Thanks so much Nurys for our new GPS tool!
