Editorial Reviews

Review

Specialty rulers are useful in any quilters tool kit, but they can be a big expense if you only use them once or twice. That's why this is such an awesome book―it takes that wedge ruler you may have bought to make a Dresden Plate block back in the day and turns it into your new best friend. This book goes way beyond piecing wedges into circles (though there are a few fabulous patterns with that theme), showing you other round variations, and how to go beyond the round with some incredible patterns that you wouldn't think came from a wedge ruler. There are ten patterns in the book, with basic instructions for piecing wedges. There's also an extensive skills and techniques section with tips for accurate piecing. Once you're done with the patterns, you'll have a whole new skill set and you'll be looking at that wedge ruler in a completely new light! ― Make Modern

Cameli (Step-by-Step Free-Motion Quilting) explores the versatility of wedge shapes in quilting in this collection of colorful modern projects. The book begins with information about cutting and piecing wedge shapes, including tricks for making the most of fabric as well as cutting with an eye toward a finished design. The projects feature wedges pieced into traditional full circles and half-circle arcs, as well as improv-style pieces and squared-off wedge-based blocks that create a repeating pattern. Even if the projects aren't to one's tastes, Cameli's tips for making pieced circles lie flat is useful to anyone interested in working with wedge-shaped pieces (including traditional Dresden plates). VERDICT Cameli's designs feature a modern flair, vibrant color, and clever use of a tried-and-true shape. Quilters will enjoy testing out the possibilities. ―

Welcome! I'm a nurse-midwife in Portland, Oregon who fell in love with quilting over a decade ago. Quilting feels good and I love teaching people how to do it! With whatever tools and experience you have, you can make beautiful quilts. I invite you to check out my books, follow my blog www.afewscraps.com, or watch my classes on Bluprint. I like to say "Done is better than perfect", and I'd love to help you feel ready to quilt your creations on whatever machine you have. I'm not a full-time quilter and you don't have to be either! We can still make the quilts that bring us delight. Happy stitching to you!

Something I love about all hey books including this one is aside from the great patterns, Christina encourages you to just play, and gives you ideas for doing so. I'm a quilter who very much enjoyed not working from a pattern and just working from my head and she gives ideas and tools for doing that in the medium of wedges with this book. Of course also many patterns too. She also has great tips on working with wedges to keep things flat and finishing edges etc so your project (be it a pattern or from your own creativity) turns out lovely.

I highly recommend this and all of her books!

I have a lot of quilting books, and though I love most of them, the truth is that most books that come out nowadays, only has a few patterns I'd want to make. And I've seen the rest of the patterns before in some variation. However, not only are the quilts in this book new to me, I also want to make almost every quilt from this book!

This book is so beautiful. Christina has both a fabulous eye for color, great ideas, as well as being an excellent free-motion quilter and she's put all of that into this book. She explains clearly how to execute these wedge designs, so it's very understandable, even though initially it looked hard. This is a keeper!

Really enjoyed getting this book on wedge quilts. My only disappointment was trying to find the 9 degree ruler that most of the patterns are written for. I ended up buying a 10 degree ruler and hoping I can make it work.

There are lots of patterns I really like that I can see myself making soon. I like the author’s writing style and explanations, the photos are excellent and the ideas for further development are interesting and exciting. Any quilter would love this book!

Although I haven’t made any of the quilts in the book yet, after reading it I am confident that I can based on the clear directions with pictures. I appreciate the inclusion of Snuggie s for the quilting as well as the piecing.
