Cats, Dogs, Men, Women, Ninnies & Clowns: The Lost Art of William Steig Kindle & comiXology
Children, octogenarians, and everyone in between know the work of William Steig, the beloved cartoonist and award-winning children’s book author whose work graced the covers and pages of The New Yorker for more than seventy years. In Cats, Dogs, Men, Women, Ninnies & Clowns: The Lost Art of William Steig, Jeanne Steig uncovers more than 450 never-before-published cartoons by her husband and provides personal insight and anecdotes about his work and her relationship with Bill, shedding new light on this celebrated genius.
“What a splendid gift it would be if the works tearing up the best-seller lists weren’t that of a Stieg Larsson, but a Steig, William . . . a fresh and quirky way of discovering the celebrated illustrator’s oeuvre.” —T Magazine Blog, The New York Times
“Pure pleasure from cover to cover.” —Booklist
“The book details a great character, and does so with a remarkable charm. Highly recommended for all interested in comic history and everyone who likes to look on the lighter side of life.” —Complex

- Reviewed in the United States on April 14, 2013Fist of all the paintings are so humane and reflect an understanding of humane nature. The colors are charming. The us e of color in the Chapter introductions adds to the joyous resonance of the book. Jeanne Steigs writing is wonderful and gives us an humorous and intimate peek into the nature of the artist, William Steig.
- Reviewed in the United States on September 11, 2017The book exceeded expectations. William Steig has a very subtle and intense sense of humor. Pleased to have it in my library.
- Reviewed in the United States on December 9, 2011This is a perfectly delightful book for all those who love William Steig's work, as well as those who have enjoyed it in the New Yorker over many years. Jeanne Steig's personal account of her husband is a delight to read.

- Reviewed in the United States on January 7, 2012I guess I never knew about W. Steig before seeing this book in my library. What I have missed lo these many years. I'm sure I've enjoyed his work in The New Yorker but like so many people never looked at the name or further investigated.
The quality of the printing is phenomenal. Clearly an act of love, by the publishers or his wife perhaps?
The writing (which is spare but perfect) cannot be improved upon, neither can the editing.
I love it so much that I want to start drawing and I do not draw.
Thanks to whoever for publishing this book. I am ordering it today.
