A short tale about Fallo and how he got in the predicament he was in. I loved the prose used in the story. However, the caverns seem like a creepy place to be especially when inhabited by a ghost about to chop off your head. I’ve developed a new respect for Fallo considering all he has been through. I’m glad I was able to read this story as it brought more depth to the Starside Saga series.
Henley
It’s a sad tale to have lost everything. If you can imagine those who have gone through fires, hurricanes, floods, tornadoes or any number of devastations then hear them say they are grateful they still have their lives and will pull through. Then ultimately you can imagine an inkling of what Mr. Holmberg has created of Henley’s character. It would be very inspiring if not for his desperation in turning to thievery.
Vale of Semūin
When I first started reading this, it felt to me like great prose. I had to read it a few times so I could let it soak in and appreciate it a little more. It’s amazing how Mr. Edstrom writes this. Those who are interested in such excellent writing will love this imaginative little tale about the miracle of Kila’s birth and who her father was.
The Name of the Blade
A story about how Quinn received her black blade. Truly enlightening.
Winternight
Lots of twists to this story. Wen and Kila are out on a night of thieving as others celebrate what could be similar to our Christmas. Instead they are caught up in horror and licentiousness reminding me of certain scenes in Game of Thrones. I gained a great admiration of Wen and his love and willingness to sacrifice anything for his sister Kila.
As I read through these stories I could sense Mr. Edstrom’s deep connection to his writing skills and I am in awe. I had imagined myself a pretty good writer having received excellent grades in English and writing throughout my school years. However, I never had the inclination toward fiction. I certainly could not dream up anything as inspirational as Mr. Edstrom’s works. I highly recommend reading his books and feel confident any appreciative reader of fantasy worlds would do the same.
