Being a perennial is so much better than being middle-aged, isn’t it?

I love the idea of reinventing midlife and feel like there were a million “yes, that’s how I feel!” moments in this book.

What makes this book most worthwhile is the balance the authors find between seemingly contradictory truths about becoming "women of a certain age." Yes! They are educated, accomplished and ambitious. Yes, they understand the deep value of wisdom gained through experience, long-term friendships, motherhood, spiritual exploration. At the same time, as they hit their mid-forties and beyond, they experience and struggle with WTF moments of looking in the mirror and not seeing their 30 year old selves! There's no going back. This book is a hilarious take on learning to make peace with that fact, and moving on w/out "letting ourselves go." Nor do we need to! " This book reminds us we're just hitting our stride, and even though we may have some doubts, we CAN look forward to a more deeply beautiful next phase. The quotes are laugh-and-loud and will remind you that you are not alone on this fun journey!

No matter which part of middle-age you’re starting to question your life from, 35-55, there’s something in this book that will resonate, make you dig deep and provide you with a giggle along the way.

The quick quizzes on each chapter are intriguing to see what’s true of your life and the questions to get you past that brutal moment of ‘is this all there is’ will get you thinking and back on a path to reclaiming an old or finding your next joy.

These ladies have brought together a wonderful, funny, honest, and real community of women. In every one of their books I have read about someone I can completely relate to! It makes me think, LOL, and feel relieved that I'm not the 'only one'. I love the quizzes at the beginning and have tagged a few of the quick reference pages at the end of each chapter. With every stage I go through - they get it right. Proud to be a perennial!

This book is such a breath of fresh air! I'm 49 and tackling the issues of teenage kids, aging parents, and what I want out of life in my 50's and beyond... While I guess I'm technically considered "middle aged", that seems like such an outdated term!!! Or something we would expect from our parents' generation. So thankful for this modern take on marriage, career, aging, and motherhood as my goals shift at this time in my life!!! Love these authors and their previous works as well, but this latest volume is really hitting home in the best way. Honest and witty, it had me laughing while diving deeper on a lot of important issues.

If you are a woman on either side of mid-life, you will enjoy reading that you are not alone in many of things you have been going through and feeling about family, career and aging. The book is like a good girlfriend. I gave it 4 stars and not 5 because the advice part was a little rushed and thin. After reading about other women out there feeling the same way I do, I was hoping fo more discussion on how to deal with it. Recommended reading, but it wrapped up too quickly for my liking.

I so appreciate this book and starting the conversation around 'Perennials'. As the book says "we are uniquely enduring". There is no road map for this new version of mid-life. Creating one is exciting, exhausting, exhilarating and daunting all at the same time. Glad someone is trying to capture it!
