Greedy Givers (FBI Philadelphia Corruption Squad Book 2) Kindle Edition

4.7 out of 5 stars 64 ratings

She believes he's a con-man. He believes he's a victim of what happens when greed and giving collide.

Special Agent Kari Wheeler refuses to accept the hero label, even after receiving the FBI and the City of Philadelphia’s Medal of Bravery. She just wants to get back to work. Her new case has her investigating Cuthbert “Cuddy” Mullins, a self-described do-gooder who says he is changing the world for the glory of God. He’s accused of running the largest charity Ponzi scheme in the country. As he attempts to convince everyone – wealthy philanthropists, donors, non-profits, and even himself – that it’s all a big misunderstanding, Kari knows that she and Cuddy have something in common; they are both living a lie. He claims God gave him the gift to read troubled souls. Will he be able to read hers?

GREEDY GIVERS--an FBI crime novel about temptation, corruption, and redemption inspired by an actual true crime FBI case—is the second book in the two book Philadelphia FBI corruption squad series.

Jerri Williams has always been a storyteller and, after serving 26 years as a special agent in the FBI, she has plenty of stories to tell. During most of her Bureau career, she worked major economic fraud investigations and is amazed at the schemes and deceptions con-artist and corrupt corporate and public officials devise to steal other people’s money. She notes that with a gun, they can steal hundreds. But with a lie, they can steal millions.

She is using her prior assignment as an FBI spokesperson to write non-fiction about who the FBI is and what the FBI does and her professional experiences with scams and schemers to write crime fiction about greed.

In FBI Myths and Misconceptions: A Manual for Armchair Detectives, she presents the top 20 clichés about the FBI in books, TV, and movies. Each cliché has its own chapter, where she provides a reality check while breaking down the facts. The entertaining companion book with advanced FBI themes, FBI Word Search Puzzles: Fun for Armchair Detectives, is also available. Her crime novels—Pay to Play and Greedy Givers—feature flawed female FBI agent Kari Wheeler, a married mother of three investigating fraud and corruption in Philadelphia while struggling to balance her family responsibilities. The books are available as ebooks, print books, and audiobooks.

She often jokes that she is reliving her glory days by producing and hosting FBI Retired Case File Review, a true crime podcast with more than 8 million downloads and nearly 300 episodes where she interviews retired FBI agents about their high-profile cases and careers. Based on her experience as an FBI spokesperson, she also debunks misconceptions about the FBI and is under contract as a technical consultant for major TV networks and production companies wanting to create authentic FBI dramas and characters.

The FBI Agents Association (FBIAA) recognized Jerri as their G-Man Honors – Distinguished Service Honoree for her continued support of the FBI Family through her podcast and books.

Jerri Williams is back on the case again in her much anticipated second novel, Greedy Givers. Well, it's actually her protagonist, FBI Special Agent Kari Wheeler, at the helm here of yet another major federal investigation. And I'm certainly glad the former real life FBI agent (Ms. Williams) and her fictional counterpart (Ms. Wheeler) are working together again. They comprise a great team.
With the City of Brotherly Love as the backdrop, the readers of Greedy Givers experience in very well-written narrative form the beginning, middle, and end of a long-running criminal enterprise, the FBI investigation of same, and the various players on both sides involved therein.
Greedy Givers is the proverbial page-turner with all sorts of interesting characters and plot lines, put together as only a REAL life former FBI agent could do.
The reader will not be disappointed.

Wow, just wow. This book brought me to tears. I highly enjoyed the financial crime aspect of this book, definitely my cup of tea. The story line of the 'criminal' is a reminder that people are not black and white, good or bad. Such an interesting character study that I'm not sure what to think but will be thinking about it for days to come. Most powerful is the heart wrenching journey of the heroine, Kari, in reconciling her past and her present. I could not put this book down (darn you Jerri). Another late night, but it was worth it. I hope there will be a book 3 so I can see Kari reconcile her past with her future.

An exquisitely written, detailed novel depicting a white-collar crime. The character development was extraordinary with intriguing insight into the criminal mind. The FBI procedure rings true and the plot twists and turns keep the reader spell-bound. Highly recommend. Read Pay to Play, Williams' first book first for better understanding of the main character, Kari Wheeler.

Despite the need for better proofreading & editing, the story is solid & powerful. I loved this book even more than the first one. I love how Jeri was able to portray Cuddy with such humanity & make his character so sympathetic & relatable. I also love Kari's struggles that led her to a path of honesty with herself and her husband. This is an amazing story of redemption however Cuddy's complete narcissism & orchestrating his wife's death in the name of the Lord doesn't sit well with me as a Christian.

Jerri Williams’ second book is even better than the first one! Williams is adept at creating the perfectly flawed characters that you just want to root for despite their failings.

What I really appreciate is the level of authenticity that her previous career lends to the fiction. The way Kari thinks, talks and reactions is just so genuine because the author has really been there and done it. That level of intimacy can not be achieved with mere research or creativity.

If you like the book, definitely check out her amazing podcast: “FBI Retired: Case File Review”. She invites retired FBI agents to talk about their most interesting and notorious case.

A fast paced, fun and entertaining book. I found myself liking the villain in the book in spite of the fact that he really is an objectionable character.
I enjoyed Jerri Williams' previous book Pay to Play and really like her podcast which I follow assiduously. This book highlights the role of law enforcement with a side of humor and compassion. I look forward to the next one.
