A Celtic warrior princess accused of treason for aiding her enemy lover must win back her father’s love and trust

Yet, when Catrin again reunites with Marcellus, she is torn between her love for him and duty to King Amren. She must ultimately face her greatest challenger who could destroy her life, freedom, and humanity.

Editorial Reviews

Review

"Imbued with both Roman and Celtic traditions, myths and legends, the story draws a contrastive parallel between the two cultures and civilizations. There are memorable scenes such as the brilliant description of the fertility rite meant to validate Marcellus's claim to kinship and to symbolize his union with the Earth Goddess who bestows rich crops and large livestock. If the realism of the story is ensured by the constantly changing network of political alliances and backstabbing, its beauty springs from the wonderfully interwoven mythological references and enlightening mystical experiences."--OnlineBookClub.org

"Part fantasy, part historical fiction, Linnea Tanner has woven together a wonderful tale of romance, intrigue, mystery, and legend to create an entertaining and complex story...the magic of the druids was woven into the story, complementing the drama being created between Catrin's desire to prove her loyalty to her father, and the machinations of Rhan and Marrock. Everything meshes together to give the reader a truly entertaining story of love, magic, and betrayal." -
The International Review of Books

"There is never a dull moment in this book, which is useful to those who may be experiencing the series for the first time. Tanner has a clear grasp on the historical aspects of her setting, showing that she has put in some research. This is a fantasy novel, of course, so there are liberties taken. Even so, the way she crafts the tale could make one believe that these are the trues stories of an age long gone ...

It can be difficult to make a book exciting, full of action, romance, and fantasy and still balance it with great characters. Catrin is out lead: she is strong, special and proud. A princess of Britannia who is in love with a man of Rome. A love like theirs is not welcomed in this age: her beloved is the enemy and she is seen as a fool. Despite her challenges, Catrin continues to rise above them, even if she is knocked down for a short period of time. The character creation shows the author's dedication to telling a great story. So often tales that are full of action boast flat characters. Catrin seems to be alive within the pages of this book.

If you are looking for an exciting adventure that leaves you wanting more, do not pass up
Dagger's Destiny. Boasting fully developed characters and a well-defined setting, this book caters to all readers. The romance, fantasy, action and subterfuge are sure to win over readers from several genres."--Literary Titan (Gold Book Award)

Catrin's story continues in Dagger's Destiny with her father, King Amren, accusing her of treason because of her relationship with Marcellus, who is a Roman enemy. So, she finds herself between love and duty. Can she redeem herself before her father and her people? Can she break the curse? Meanwhile, Catrin's horrible half-brother, Marrock, is conspiring with Agrona to take the crown of the Cantiaci from King Amren. Betrayal, love, vengeance, duty, Celtic magical powers, and conflict are at the center of this installment in the Curse of the Clansmen and Kings series. My only issue was that I expected more romance in the book, but that's a personal preference. I highly recommend it to readers of historical fiction.

I liked that the characters are more human than mystical and the setting is more like a Viking or Norse origin. It was sometimes hard to follow if you haven’t read the first book in the series as you wouldn’t have the back story of many of the characters. I didn’t care for the derogatory terms used and the rough language used in regards to women, but there was rape in the book which is a part of war. It was interesting and a page turner though and I enjoyed reading it.

It has been a while since I read Apollo's Raven (book 1), but I was swept right back into this world with the first chapter. What an amazing story! There wasn't a moment of inaction throughout the whole book. Every scene added to the ultimate battle, and what a battle it was!

King Amren's daughter, Catrin, fell in love with a foreigner, Marcellus, in book 1. She has mystical powers and is able to merge with ravens to see what they see and to foresee the future. King Amren's outcast son, Marrock, is hellbent on avenging his mother's death, killing his father, and becoming king. King Amren is obsessed with breaking the curse set upon him by Marrock's mother, but nothing he (or Catrin) does prevents the inevitable from happening.

This story is so brilliantly written. Each scene is described so vividly that you can see it play out in your mind. And the characters have so much depth to them. The emotional angst of some and the evil cunningness of others is so expertly created!

This story has Greek/Roman tragedy written all over it, and I loved every minute of it. There are still two more books in the series, and I cannot wait to see what happens next. If you are looking for happily-ever-after, this is not it (lol!), but if you want a story where you are going to be sucked into and held captive until the end, then you will love this book!

Interesting premise of Celtic magic, Shapeshifters and the Roman Legions in Britannia. Changes location and main characters frequently making it a challenge.

Dagger's Destiny (Curse of Clansmen and Kings) written by: Linnea Tanner, is the second book in this Historical Fantasy series about a curse, treason, betrayal and death. That revolves around a young girl, named Catrin, who fell in love with a Roman, named Marcellus, who is the clans enemy.

Her father King Amren believes, due to the information that he was given, that his daughter is a traitor. King Amren believes that Catrin was seduced into giving sensitive information to Marcellus. With war brewing King Amren feels he has no other choice but to put his daughter on trial. King Amren gives Catrin one more chance to prove her loyalty. This involves Catrin making the hard decision of breaking the curse, and becoming a warrior or choosing love. She must make a difficult choice before it is too late.

This is a wonderfully written story full of thoughtful descriptions on how life was in 24 AD Southeast Britannia. On how magic and the mythical beliefs were handled and believed in this era. The use of magic mixed with the earthly elements felt like they were real and could easily exist in the modern world. The use of historically accurate beliefs really helped to bring this story to life and showed the depth the author went to in order to make this story feel real. In doing so the events and the characters felt like they could have been real historical events and people living in that point in time.

The way that the two different belief systems are interwoven was wonderfully done. You could see how different they are and how similar. This helps to keep the story entertaining and believable. The action is almost non-stop but for some slow periods that help to make the action more fleshed out and understandable.

I enjoyed the way the wedding ritual was described. It felt alien to me and yet familiar. The way that Catrin's people believe that the woman represents a goddess and the man, represents something that is mortal. That was a lovely description that matched the lore for that era. I liked how there were some twists and turns in the story line. It kept me guessing as to what was coming next.

This is not suitable for the younger readers as it does have some very mild sexual descriptions and the use of profanity. This is a great book for those who enjoy the historical fantasy that centers around the Celtic and Roman myths. The story was professionally edited. I found very few errors. I give Dagger's Destiny a 4 out of 4 stars. The reason for this score is for the great editing and the blending of the magical and the earthly elements to make a great story.

A MAGICAL TRIP INTO THE LANDS OF LEGENDS.

After reading Apollos Raven, book one in this series, I couldn’t wait for the next book in this series. I was not disappointed, instead I once again was swept into the Celtic world Ms. Tanner created a place where magic and mythological adventure awaited and I was enthralled. Ms. Tanner’s knowledge of the history of the period is astounding, and the characters, plots, twists and turns, is a remarkably vivid adventure.

Add in a war, forbidden love, an ancient curse and you have a book that is richly colored, full of a story that draws you into it, and an adventure of epic proportions awaits you.

I adore this series.

An exciting sequel to the Curse of Clansmen and Kings series. So many twists and turns to the plot one just has to keep reading to find out what happens next. Catrin and Marcellus are lovers from opposing sides. Will they ever get together or are they doomed to be the pawns of the power hungry forces.
