- Reviewed in the United States on November 14, 2020Great book! Lovely read with great story telling. Not too long so we leave it out on the table for our guests and our weekend visitors often pick it up and finish before they leave our home.

- Reviewed in the United States on December 31, 2018A well-researched, entertaining collection of stories of some of Detroit’s more colorful figures. Through family, I’ve always known a great deal about Detroit after ~1920 but learning about the city history before this time was fascinating.
Many of the scoundrels and ne’er-do-wells featured were involved in schemes that sound eerily relevant today (corruption, petty grievances, bankruptcies, stoking of racial resentment).
I recommend this book to those who love Detroit history.

- Reviewed in the United States on March 29, 2020Never read it. Boyfriend from Detroit. Totally worth it.
- Reviewed in the United States on November 26, 2018An incredibly insightful look at the real deal that made Detroit! Lyons has a unique and in depth scope, if you love this city or have ever wondered how it came to be, THIS is the boom for you!
