Thirty years ago I cut my teeth in writing fiction and enjoyed both sci-fi and historical fiction.A strange combination right? I agree. As time went on I found myself drawn away from fiction and spent many years working on factual matters related to travel and business. It kept me very busy and I enjoyed the research and the writing. But in recent years, I’ve slowed down on the steady work of “fact” and slowly returned to my first love: fiction.

I must confess that I have a certain devilish very dry sense of humor. This manifests itself in my books. I don’t strive to write comedy — far from it — but if you’re seeking something absolutely dry and heavy on science then you’re looking in the wrong place. If you’re looking for something with an actual scientific basis, careful research and just a dash of dry humor then I may be your man.

I’m interested in concepts but fundamentally I am far more interested in people. If a volcano erupts, that is interesting. But I’m more interested in how people react to it. I’m fortunate in that I have travelled the world and seen the proverbial good, bad and ugly. That is what drives my stories.

When Babel Floods is a fantastic dystopian fiction read. It is a take for the modern age as a dying world is forced to reckon with extreme drought. The solution: an island separated from civilization.

The plot moves at a good clip that kept me engaged throughout. The story is well written, and I enjoyed the overall writing style. The tale as a whole is unique, almost a modern retelling of an Atlantis kind of story. The main characters feel very real and relatable, average Joe's thrust into extraordinary situations.

You won't be disappointed with this one.

Daniel Mainwaring’s When Babel Floods was a mixed bag consisting of all good parts. Mainwaring sets up a desperate world on the brink of apocalypse whose only refuge is a manmade island in the middle of the Atlantic. But the island is more than a vacation spot and may very well be connected with the world’s woes. Mainwaring’s writing is fast paced and interesting, filled with espionage and discovery sure to satisfy any sci fi or thriller fans out there!

A fast-paced, inventive read, Mainwaring brings together an eclectic mix of characters in this Dystopian drama. His conversational observation is evident in a refreshing and unnerving tale championing the best and the worst of humanity.
