The Fall Before Flight: A Doctor/Patient Forbidden Romance Kindle Edition
They call this place Oasis, and he's the doctor in charge.
He thinks he can save me. Heal me. Catch me if I fall...
Yeah, right.
Dr. Leo Chastain is a mouthwatering distraction.
For that reason alone, I'm inclined to play his game.
He doesn't know I'm incapable of emotions that come naturally to others -
Fear, compassion, love...
I might be a sociopath.
I warned him my kind of broken can't be fixed.
That the harder he pushes, the harder I'll push back.
Until he's broken, too.
I warned him.
The Fall Before Flight is a standalone therapist/patient forbidden romance with a happily ever after!

- Reviewed in the United States on October 13, 2018I’ve said it before, and it seems trite to repeat it but for those reading reviews who aren’t familiar with my blog, I am an avid reader and editor. Over the last 7 years, specifically, since I got my first e-reader, I have discovered more authors than I can name that are tremendously talented. Yet, prior to e-readers and the ability to self-publish, authors might spend a lifetime sending manuscripts to publishing houses repeatedly, only to be rejected for one thing or another. And yet, I think in the years since I started reading fewer mainstream authors--sticking almost completely to those that began their careers self-publishing--I have read some of the absolute best fiction of my life. Well, not withstanding the classics, but again, we are speaking of self-publishing authors. And without a doubt, one of my absolute favorite fictional authors is L.M. Halloran.
I have been absolutely hooked on L.M. Halloran’s writing since I read my first book by her, Double Vision. After I crawled out from under that metaphorical rock which concealed her talents, I made it my mission to stalk her on social media and read whatever I could get my hands on that she’d released previously. I find my awe of her grows with each book I’ve read. As most would agree, any author grows by degrees with each book they write and the same holds true for L.M. Halloran. Yet, from that first book to her current release, The Fall Before Flight, what has impressed me the most was the skill inherent in L.M. Halloran’s writing. I personally find her work exceptional in every way. Her writing is extremely fluid, intelligent and beautiful. Her plots captivating, her characters completely swoon-worthy and her romances marvelously hot. Her writing stands out against the masses.
Another extremely noteworthy fact about L.M. Halloran is her ability to write successfully across multiple modern-day romances genres is unique. All too often, authors pigeonhole themselves and then cannot find their way clear to truly explore their range of talents. Conversely, L.M. Halloran has written a different trope with each book across numerous sub-genres of romance. My favorite book by Halloran happens to be Perfect Vision, a dark romance that is both an erotic BDSM romance and very suspenseful. However, she followed up PV with her current release, The Fall Before Flight, which has allowed me to again be impressed by how truly talented and diverse her abilities are. You see, The Fall Before Flight is a taboo doctor/patient romance that is angsty and a complete slow burn. While her writing style remains consistent, the variety she offers readers means her books are unique, creative and insightful.
The Fall Before Flight is a truly stunning romance. It displays brilliantly L.M. Halloran’s signature storytelling—it’s exceptionally well written; encompasses a plot that twists in entirely unpredictable ways; and includes characters who grow beautifully as the story progresses. I will not attempt to spin a new version of the synopsis for The Fall Before Flight and will instead leave that to the expert, L.M. Halloran. I also refuse to post spoilers, so you won’t stumble on those in this review. The Fall Before Flight is an outstanding example a well-crafted plot and how to write a fantastic, slow-burn romance; you will feel the tensions rise between the hero and heroine until the pressure simply ignites your kindle! It's spectacularly hot! Dr. Leo Chastain and Amelia “Mia” Sloan’s dynamics will draw you in and have you hooked within moments. Leo is a complete enigma, a puzzle that Mia is determined to put together and break apart for her own means. Mia is a skilled chameleon, the ‘bad girl’, a heroine who is broken from a devastating childhood and I couldn’t have been more fascinated with her! Since the story is primarily from Mia’s perspective, her thoughts pointed to a very complex character and only reading The Fall Before Flight can make you truly appreciate her growth. I found myself impressed by the skill with which L.M. Halloran embedded idiosyncrasies into Mia’s character that directly affected the progression of both the plot and the growth of her character. These idiosyncrasies ranged from the overt to those seemingly veiled; yet, upon further reflection of Mia’s character, I realized that I only had to piece together clues to see what had actually been staring me in the face all along. It really was genius. Also, as the plot evolved, and Mia and Leo’s relationship progressed, I found myself quite taken by Leo’s character. He was very well adjusted, although his intentions went deeper than the reader will appreciate until many of the plot twists are laid bare. He was just as multi-faceted, and appearances were deliciously deceiving. 😉
I could go on with my desire to convince you just out phenomenal The Fall Before Flight is. The sooner you stop reading reviews, the sooner you can get completely wrapped up into this contemporary and taboo romance that will leave you every bit as addicted to L.M. Halloran as I am. I was unable to put aside this book and read it in one sitting. It’s extremely entertaining and you should one-click this one without delay!!!

- Reviewed in the United States on December 8, 2019This book came recommended by one of my favorite author's, and usually when this person makes a book recommendation it's a must read. This person has never steered me wrong, their suggestions never disappoint and this book was no different. This was written in an engaging way to draw you in, I didn't want to put it down. The twists and turns were well thought out, one of which I never saw coming and I can usually predict a book.
This book was written in the Heroine's, Amelia (Mia) Sloan, POV. Although I understand why it was written in just one POV it would have been nice to get into Dr. Leo Chastain's head, especially with his line of work. Mia is a wonderfully broken character that you can't help but love. Leo is a mysterious man who you can't help but fall for.
I would recommend this book for sure.
- Reviewed in the United States on October 11, 2018Halloran must be a wizard, waving her magic fingers over her keyboard with a whispered “Abracadabra,” because her words enthralled me in their glamour from the very first page. She is a true artist with a rare gift, painting stunning pictures with her words, meticulously setting a scene, subtly creating a mood, and eliciting more thought and feeling than just about any other author in romance today. Hundreds of books later, I still remember the first two sentences, and all they evoked, from the very first book of Halloran's I read. That is the sorcery and power of her words. And, in my opinion, this book is easily the very best of her work to date.
When a book keeps you up reading until the wee hours of the morning, is the last thing on your mind when your head hits the pillow, and has thoughts of itself ricocheting through your brain when you wake up the next morning, that book has already worked its way deep into your psyche and indelibly marked your soul. You need to know this about “The Fall Before Flight" because the substance and force of its words, its story and its characters will cause a shift within you and has the potential to create fundamental changes you never imagined were possible.
A book about a narcissist or sociopath?! The baser part of my brain scoffed at the notion of this personality type cast as the heroine in a romance novel, but my heart had confidence in the magic of Halloran's writing, and if any author could redeem such a character, it’s Halloran. And redeem she did, in a mysterious, marvelous, spectacular way. I was prejudiced against Mia before even opening the book, but very early on Halloran began to effortlessly show me the error of my ways and I quickly embraced Mia's character, as well as Leo's. I can’t imagine the amount of research and all the technicalities that go into writing a book with a strong psychiatric theme, yet Halloran weaves them throughout the story in an engaging, fluid, compelling way. In her hands they become a dab of color here or a slash of shadowing there that brings the story vividly to life. Her skills as a storyteller are unparalleled as she embeds hints and nuances, reveals unexpected twists and drops metaphorical bombs, further captivating the reader and sucking her deeper into the pages.
The story has a bit of a 28 Days feel to it, but only the setting is similar, because the passion, emotion and internal struggles far surpass those from any Hollywood production. This is so much more raw, real and desperate. More tender, inspiring and uplifting. Add to that a cast of secondary characters who are so authentic and fully developed that they're more life-like than my next-door neighbors, as well as a ridiculously adorable kid, and it propels this book to the next level. Each character was easily fully formed in my mind, making me thirsty for more details and the eventual outcome. I had a first-class seat on this train, anticipating its derailment with omniscient certainty and obsessed with experiencing the struggle of getting back on track, and the final, beautifully satisfying stop when it pulled into the station.
Oh my dayum, this book wrecked me and obliterated my heart. Mia and Leo's story is complex, convoluted and complicated but mesmerizing, beguiling and compelling. It’s agonizingly heartbreaking and astonishingly healing. Exquisitely tender and achingly beautiful, with the perfect amount of heat and humor to make it complete and leave its singular impression that will echo for months to come. This is the one. This book easily sits, understated, humble and haunting, in the number one spot on my list of best books this year. I can’t give you a better recommendation than that. This one will burrow deep, shattering your heart and fracturing your soul, and then with exquisite, gentle care, knit you back together leaving you better than before for having read it. You absolutely don’t want to miss this unexpectedly unique, inspiring, incredible read!
Gah! My ineptness with words can’t even begin to do it justice. There aren't enough stars in the rating system to tell you how phenomenal it is. Just read the book. I promise you won’t regret it.

5.0 out of 5 stars MAGNIFICENT
MAGNIFICENT!!! This book is everything. Amelia is broken... she knows it, in fact she revells in it. But she has no clue how broken she actually is.
Leo is a man who deals with those who are in pieces, and Amelia might just be his biggest challenge ever. He's determined to gather all the broken pieces and teach her to become whole again. She's determined to smash Leo to pieces, it's what she does.
Their chemistry is amazing - They're two opposing forces simultaneously drawn together and forcing each other apart. The sparks are white hot and the explosion that it inevidible will be even greater.
This story has it all. It's in the top 5 of everything I've read this year. I never wanted it to end and just raced through desparate to get to the conclusion. It's magnificent and a book that will stay with me for a long time to come.

5.0 out of 5 stars Brilliant read
I read every day, mainly as a wind down before bed, and I was struggling to find my next book to read. I searched Kindle unlimited and this book jumped out at me and the review rating seemed pretty good, so I thought I'd give it a try and downloaded it. From the moment I started reading it I loved it, loved the characters and could relate to some situations. I was enthralled and honestly could not put the book down. Ended up reading the whole book in about 5 hours, staying up until the early hours because I was dying to know how it turned out. It's well written and I'm keen to check out other books by the same author. Would definitely recommend.
