Overall a great book. Know Morgan Rices writing style and know that she like to stretch out a series makes since with this book. The whole thing from start ti finish felt like a drawn out first chapter, in a good way.

The story was quite engaging and fast moving. Loved the creative thought that went into the weave of words! I can't wait for what comes next...

I love the premise of this book. It's interesting and worth reading if you are a fan of Harry Potter or even magical realism.

It's clear that it has influence from Harry Potter. (In fact, some reviews have mentioned that it's a little TOO derivative, but I'm willing to overlook that). I think the problem I have stems from four major issues: 1. technical inaccuracy (the author confused whether white or black absorbs more light), 2. confusing scene setups, (*SPOILER ALERT*: Hitler was going to detonate a nuclear bomb when he was standing right next to it?), 3. rushed narrative, and 4. lack of character development.

I think that #3 really hit me the hardest. It was almost like the author was so determined to get it into a specific number of pages that the story is affected. Oliver, as a character, has some pretty direct motivations and is developed, but the other characters are flat and lack nuance.

I also think that the typographical errors (i.e. spelling, sentence structure) shows clearly the self-published nature of the book. Ms. Rice is a fairly well-known author now, so my hope is that future books have a little more editing. It wasn't a deal-breaker for me, but it was distracting.

I started reading this this morning and I just finished it this afternoon. I had to put it down in between driving my grandkids to school and picking them up. It was awesome.

I listened to the audio version.

The narrator was good.

It starts out Harry Potter-y as in Oliver has an awful life and an awful family (especially his brother). He’s sleeping in a place that’s NOT meant for sleeping. That similarity is a pity, but let’s see how it pans out. And it was captivating! Oliver likes technical things, not magical. Yet it is magic that will change his life. Combined with technique, magic can be pretty powerful! And then he comes across a Factory.

It was an adventure! I enjoyed it.

I enjoyed reading about friendships being built, and learning to trust in oneself. This was an enjoyable page turner. When I tried explaining it to my daughter she stated. "It sounds like Harry Potter". It does have some similarities but is different and enjoyable on its own.

The wife was reading this book and I was just finishing Hail Mary by Andy Weir (great book). She was about half way through it and said it was not bad. We have both since finished it and agree, very easy read but feels so much like the author was trying to follow the same road to fame and fortune as J.K. Rowling. Oliver Blue (aka Harry clone) lives with a family that mistreats him and has a brother that bully’s him. But instead of living under the stairs in the cupboard, he sleeps in an Alcove.

The first 25% of the book is spent making you sympathize with our protagonist until he finds his way to a school that teaches magic. He quickly makes friends with another boy and girl.

So yeah…. You can see what I mean when I say HP novel clone. But with that said, it was an okay read. I would have given it a 3 star at this point. But things turn around the last 25% of the novel. Honestly…. Part of the reason is this is where the author breaks away from the Harry Potter template. The entire premise goes off the rails and then the plot just gets… Weird…. Can not really say more without spoilers in case some one does read this book. If you do…. You will have serious eye rolling as well.

Two redeeming qualities. First…. Book was free. Second, it was a short and very easy read. So did waste too much time.

You are better off rereading Harry Potter book 1.

This story felt like Harry Potter with a sharper edge. Interesting and enjoyable with that delightful hint of bullying and chaos. I look forward to the next story.

This is the first book in the School for Seers series and it sets a cracking pace. Oliver Blue is a loner treated differently because of his intelligence.
Seeking out his inventor hero he stumbles into a fantastic adventure.
Morgan Rice is a renowned author of several series and this one promises to be just as remarkable as their others.

4.0 out of 5 stars Very Interesting

I had come across this book while browsing through Amazon. Since, the book was free on Amazon India, I started reading it for my grandson who is 6 years old (I read and he listens). Both of us were hooked to it and when the book was over, we bought the next book in the series and then next. Currently, we are reading the fourth book in the series. The first book Magical Factory was very interesting. It portrayed the hero Oliver Blue as a seemingly normal boy getting bullied at home and school but it didn't deter him in his quest to learn more. Circumstances took him to an abandoned factory and the rest of the book is simply fantastic.
