- Reviewed in the United States on November 30, 2018Be forewarned that this book has our heroine, Molly, being abducted in the beginning of the book. This book has elements of BDSM with dubious consent in some parts and, of course, no consent in others due to the nature of the book. If that will offend you, this book is not for you.
Having gotten that out of the way, Ms. Felicity Brandon did a great job on this book. We see our sweet Molly that has been abducted having to evaluate her beliefs. We see Connor, the man who has taken her, evolving throughout the story; we're not quite sure ultimately where his character will lead to. I found myself cheering Molly on in her strength and determination.
I will say, as in other books I have read by Felicity Brandon, she touches on sensitive topics with BDSM. She does a great job of safe, sane and consensual. I know there are parts in this book that are not consensual, but I am impressed with where she puts here limits and compassion. This helps bring a dark psychological romantic thriller with BDSM back within the more acceptable realm of Master/slave and D/s. I appreciate the time, insight, love and patience she puts into her books; it makes it worth the wait and worth the time spent reading them. Thanks again for writing the book.... Please hurry with the next one!
- Reviewed in the United States on July 30, 2019Dark, gritty, and intriguing. I got lost writhing this world! I seriously turned pages so fast I thought I would freeze my kindle! It was such a good read!!!
- Reviewed in the United States on July 24, 2019This book is NOT BDSM. There is NO dubious consent in BDSM. NONE. EVER. ALL BDSM activities are consensual, sane, and safe. I read all of the reviews I could stand that called this Dubious Consent BDSM and any other title you want to put on it.
The book is dark, it is violent, it is about dominance and submission, but not about a Dominant and his submissive. I will refer back to the safe, sane, and consensual - this is NOT BDSM. Have I said that enough now so someone, anyone gets it? Playing around with handcuffs isn't comparable to this book. I love dark, this book went dark. Along with dark, you get violent sometimes. You get a heroine who identifies with her kidnapper after being subjected to some of his twisted dominance. And if you are into dark, you get a dark book that ends in a cliffhanger. The cliffhanger part is why this only got 4 stars, because I didn't know it was until I'd read it. When I see "trilogy" or "series" I don't automatically assume that the books will read as one. I didn't care for this cliffhanger at all, and thought that it made the story less important than it should have been.
Overall, I would recommend this for someone who wants to go dark and understands what that means to a reader.
- Reviewed in the United States on November 28, 2018The first book in a new trilogy by Felicity Brandon.
If you like Stephen King or ara a fan of Kathy Bates then you might see a parallel to this story. It isn’t as creepy and scary though… or is it?
It is a bit darker then Felicity Brandon other books. There is a lot of focus on pet play and humiliation so if that is not your cup of tea, then this isn’t the book for you. If you love dark then you will enjoy this book a lot.
I loved how the author showed the internal struggles and emotions of Molly. There was so much going on in her mind. Survival, shame, confusion, joy and so much more. That makes the character real and layered. And it also makes you think about what you would do in this situation. How would you react?
Connor is a bit of a enigma. I am not sure how I feel about him yet and what he is. He shows different sides of himself and keeps you guessing about his actions.
I look forward to reading the next book in the series, because I need more.
- Reviewed in the United States on December 3, 2020Read with KU. Sooo...at the end of the synopsis/blurb for this book, it said something like If you loved the Twist Me Series, you'll love this. Umm...no, if the were referring to Twist Me by Anna Zaires, this was nothing like Julian and Nora. The only thing they have in common is kidnapping. And Julian in Twist Me was a full on sadist, but he had redeeming qualities. He also wasn't just good looking, he was a charming, well rounded character. There is not one single redeeming quality about Connor at all. He's just psychotic and cruel. Even in that series I felt Nora capitulated to easily, but she launched a damn D-day offensive compared to the lack of fight in this chick. Honestly I hate that anyone compared this to the Twist Me Series in any positive way at all. If the idea of a kidnapping, dark romance tickles your fancy even a little, go read the Twist Me Series by Anna Zaires. And then the Capture Me Series and Tormentor Mine Series by her as well (in that order...they're connected). Those are all far superior to this.
This had potential. But fell miles short of the mark. There was no dark and sexy, no uncomfortably erotic deliciously guilty feeling, it was just dark. Which is fine. But then tell me that's what it is. Don't tell me it's a romance. It didn't even seem like dubious consent even when the h was giving in. It just felt cheap. Also, I feel like I should've been given a heads up about the whole pet play thing. That's a huge theme here, and it certainly doesn't help this underacheiver. Instead of dark sexy Misery, it was more r@pey Misery.
- Reviewed in the United States on July 30, 2019The beginning was great, but I had to force myself to read the rest. I misunderstood the description as being more of a gothic dark romance thing. There was not anything I would call romance in this book. It is all kink and fetish, so it would be good for people who enjoy it, but for me it was just kidnap, torture, rape, and Stockholm syndrome.
- Reviewed in the United States on April 21, 2019I would recommend this book to anyone who likes dark romance. It definitely had its steamy scenes excited to see what the next book brings!

5.0 out of 5 stars A Dark Thrill
This is the start of a trilogy that’s is not for the faint hearted..if you like nice fluffy romance then this is NOT the book for you...it’s more on the darker side with a big elements of pet play, BDSM, humiliation and deprivation.
Felicity takes us on a different ride as this is a bit more darker than any of her other stories and the more I read the more I wanted so I am definatley looking forward to reading the next book...

5.0 out of 5 stars A deliciously dark start to this captive erotic romance
This is the author's first foray into the world of dark erotica, and what a good job she's done. I'd put it somewhere around/just past middle of the dark spectrum, its not horrific, violent or out-and-out abusive. However it is very much a book of dubious-consent, humiliation and psychological mind play. The story is well written, had good pace and is extremely hot!
Molly has spent years expressing her dark, kinky fantasies through the pages of her novels. Connor is the fan who has decided to fulfil those deeply buried desires, whether Molly wants him to or not. What results is a tale of spankings, punishments, depravity, Stockholm syndrome, extreme pet play and a woman in turmoil. I loved the battle between Molly's mind and her body, how she struggled to accept her reactions to Connor's treatment.
Written third person, from both main characters POV, I did feel we got to know both Connor and Molly. It was easier to really engage with and connect to Molly, I felt her emotions, thought processes and instinctual reactions felt believable. Whilst I'm not sure in reality that anyone would enjoy the non-consensual actions of Connor, this is a dark erotic romance and I loved how Molly had to fight her desires. Not surprisingly, though I felt I knew Connor, I didn't feel quite so much of a connection to him. I did love the hints that there is much more to learn about him.
If dubious consent, strong punishments etc bother you then this perhaps isn't the book for you. I would recommend it to those who love dark romance in all it's forms, as well as those who are new and want to try 'dipping' their toes in the black waters. I really enjoyed this and am very much looking forward to the next instalment of the story.

4.0 out of 5 stars It's okay to feel for your captor isn't it?
I hated this or I hated him. Not only kidnapped and dehumanising her his sick mind had actually been planning this for a long time. Molly wrote the story's she didn't live them. But he was going to make her live them. He was relentless acting out his own fantasy making her un-human as this story unfolds I wonder if he succeeds or she goes mad or....... is she going to die when he's had all his fun? A well written storyline i reading the next book in this story, though I was too involved wanting to poke his eyes out help this poor girl and yes give her permission to understand that even those who have been raped feel ashamed that they actually enjoyed the act. I am recommending this book to those who enjoy this kind of darkness yes I gave it 4 stars that was for the authors writing and a true story line
