About the author

Jesse Kuhlman is a Master Electrician and owner of Kuhlman Electric in Massachusetts and New Hampshire. He first started working as an apprentice in grade school, helping his father Gary on weekends and summer breaks. After a brief stint in college, went full time with Gary. Jesse will always say he learned from the best (Gary), and electrical is in his blood.
Jesse began writing in 2018. He wanted to share everything he learned in the electrical trade with homeowners and fellow electricians alike. He always says that even if only one person is helped by something he wrote, it was worth it!

- Reviewed in the United States on April 13, 2023Jesse's book is an amazing guide for learning how to troubleshoot issues in my older (1954) home. Not only has it answered so many of my questions, but it has also taught me about issues to look out for that I hadn't even thought of. This book is a great teaching tool, troubleshooting guide, and safety reference.
The diagrams are very easy to follow for a beginner DIYer and the pictures that correspond to them are excellent. Although the book is printed in B&W, Jesse has provided an email address in the beginning so he can send you the full book in color for free, in PDF format. This is to keep his printing costs down so us consumers can pay less. I emailed him with a copy of my Amazon order confirmation and he emailed me the color copy immediately. Honestly, this setup has worked out perfectly for me. I keep the paperback book open to the text for whatever project I'm working on, while I have the pictures open on my tablet, which is going to have better resolution than any printed picture. This way I can also zoom in on the color pics when necessary. Now I can read the text right next to the pics, avoiding any flipping pages back and forth when the pics are on the back of the page I'm reading.
Another great benefit to this book is Jesse's willingness to answer email questions about my projects and offer helpful hints. He truly is a great guy that wants to help DIYers be safe and save money. I HIGHLY recommend this book and I will be purchasing more of his books. Trust me, you'll be extremely happy with this book!!!
- Reviewed in the United States on September 9, 2021The text is clear, well-organized, and useful. A bit simple, but I believe the author hit the right level for his intended audience.
The target audience appears to be inexperienced homeowners trying to troubleshoot their own electrical problems. I wish the electrical references to gold (colored) contacts, silver contacts, and wire colors using black and white illustrations were a bit more clear. Take care following the wires and contacts.
To his credit, the author acknowledged the difficulty of providing color while keeping the cost of publication down. He offers to send a color PDF to verified purchasers. Mr. Kuhlman proved true to his word. He sent the promised PDF within a few hours of my request.
The author is serious! My request for a color PDF led to some communications. Mr. Kuhlman has been responsive to suggestions to improve the illustrations. Not only did he provide the PDF as promised, but he revised the print copy with clear, distortion-free illustrations that are day-and-night improvement over the original edition.
I have two additional suggestions, namely, to find a way to denote the colors of wires and connectors in gray scale and to increase the image resolution.
I recommend.
- Reviewed in the United States on October 23, 2023Love the book. I have been looking for a guide for my guys for a while. Unfortunately not everyone comes up through the trade the same, and most of the guys haven't ever seen or dealt with half of the things they are running into.
If you put out a book specifically on HVAC control wiring and troubleshooting those components, I know we would buy a copy for every single employee, both HVAC and electrical.
Thanks for putting this together, I just ordered 5 more for my guys on Amazon. I look forward to adding these into some of our trainings that we run.

1.0 out of 5 stars A little Disappointed
I received this book and started to read with a lot of excitement; However was disappointed because the information in this book is very basic. Still reading it, and still will keep the book. But my expectation was to at least learn few things. One more disappointment was the pictures in the book; first of all they are black and white, some pictures are not even clear. You simply don't use black and white pictures in instructional books like electrical troubleshooting. I was very disappointed with the quality of the pictures of the book.
