This was a quick, informative, enjoyable read that was SO HELPFUL! I'd been on birth control for 13 years and stopped this past July. I hadn't gotten my period since stopping, and had tried almost everything. I'd been do the doctor 4 times, had bloodwork, ultrasounds, went on medication, nothing. After reading the book, I started to incorporate seed cycling and literally 6 days later had my period back. Now I can't wait to jump into the food cycling portion and use all the awesome recipes in the back! THANK YOU!!

An easy and informative read. Tracy makes taboo and hard-to-understand topics palatable and fun! Bringing voice to a conversation that is otherwise embarrassing to talk about! Love the recipes and tone of voice!

I love a science-backed book as much as the next gal, and this one is AMAZING! I was actually in the hospital with what I now know was a ruptured ovarian cyst, and had just ordered this book 2 days before. As soon as I got out I cracked this book open and am now on a journey to balance my hormones. Tracy is so knowledgeable while also staying relatable. The meal plan in the back comes with 15+ recipes that I can’t wait to try!!!

I love Tracy's approach to health and nutrition in general and was so excited to finally receive her book on a topic that deserves more attention. Looking forward to applying her tips towards my own lifestyle and trying some of the recipes - all sound delicious!

Honestly, this book is exactly what I needed. SOMEHOW Tracy somehow made hormones and periods FUN while also educational. As a dietitian I learned so much and “digested” this info in a new way. Thank you so much Tracy, LOVED this book!

This book was not only helpful and informative, but was written in a way that made a typically dry/sensitive topic interesting and a fun read. A must read for every woman, but especially those struggling with the pains that come with their inevitable monthly visitor!

This book has really helped me feel better before and during my period, when I am often tired. Lockwood Beckerman provides a tactical guide to foods all month, backing suggestions with current research in nutrition and fertility. Readers get the how and the why so they can make educated decisions.

I first encountered the book The Better Period Food Solution on Max Lugavere’s Genius Life podcast with the author, Tracy Lockwood Beckerman. I cannot recommend higher both the book and the podcast episode – they compliment each other very nicely. I got really intrigued by the idea of “food cycling” to optimize your hormones and thus your overall health.

The book provides a comprehensive overview of female health and well being including:
o Period 101
o Food cycling, seed cycling
o Disorders common among females such as PCOS, endometriosis, thyroid disorders etc.
o Fertility

The book divides the period into four phases: menstrual, follicular, ovulatory, and luteal. The chapter for food cycling explains what a female body is going through in each of the phases, and which nutrition (micro, micro, antioxidant etc.) you should prioritize based on the hormonal activities during that phase. The book is very thoroughly researched and based on solid claims backed up by a long list of references to scientific papers in the end of chapters.

Tracy does a wonderful job to highlight two areas of health that are unfortunately often undermined or neglected by the conventional medicine: women’s period and foods’ impact on our health. She is such a wealth of knowledge and conveys that in a bright, cheerful, and personable manner, the attributes that I got instantly attracted to while listening to the podcast. The book is full of deep scientific knowledge written in an easy-to-read and -digest manner.

The best part of the book however must be the recipes. I have a countless number of health & wellness self-books that contain recipes to support whatever paradigm of health improvement they are talking about, ranging from autoimmunity disorders to genes and gut health. I usually find 95 % of these recipes disappointing falling either under the category of too complicated/expensive to cook, not palatable, or not original. All of the recipes in Tracy’s book I have tried became an instant regular in my everyday recipe repertoire – they are so easy to make yet original and super tasty! I love, love the edamame pesto – who knew that edamame can be cooked in this way!

Highly, highly recommend this book to anyone who want to improve their health by applying the concept of “foods as medicine” to optimize your female hormones. As it is rather rare to see a book tackling the connection between foods and female hormones, both nutrition newbies and experienced health hackers alike will find something new and helpful in this book. Last but not least, men who want to learn about women’s biological system will find the book tremendously helpful. A wonderful book, cannot recommend it higher!
