New from the New York TimesUSA Today, and Wall Street Journal bestselling authors of The Confidence Code for Girls!

The best way to understand confidence is to see it in action. Along the way they discovered what matters to them: everything from protesting contaminated water to championing inclusive books to the accessibility of girls’ basketball shoes, and so much more.

Different goals, different stories, different personalities, all illustrating the multitude of ways to be confident in the world.

Packed with photos, graphic novel strips, and engaging interviews, Living the Confidence Code proves that no matter who you are, or how old you are, nothing is out of reach when you decide to try. Join this growing global community of powerful girls and imagine—what would you like to do, once you tap into your confidence? How will you write your story?

Editorial Reviews

From School Library Journal

Gr 5-7-This title profiles 30 girls who built confidence while overcoming obstacles and pursuing their dreams. The foreword is written by gold medal-winning gymnast Laurie Hernandez. A quick introduction defines confidence and explains how to be more confident. The beginning of the text contains a glossary of "confidence building blocks" and "confidence quicksand," terms which are used throughout the book. The stories highlight a diverse group of girls from all over the world, including Bali, the United States, and Afghanistan. Topics discussed include advocating against child marriage, cleaning up the oceans, and creating a space for girls in sports. Narratives, graphic novel strips, and interviews are used to tell the stories, which follow a general format of sharing their inspiration, a failure, and finally success. Photos and illustrations are featured throughout. Back matter features resources for each chapter, with websites and information about organizations supporting each girl's cause. A final chapter offers space for the reader to write their own story. VERDICT These inspiring stories spotlight compelling role models for young girls. A great companion to the authors' The Confidence Code for Girls.-V. Lynn Christiansen, Wiley International Studies Magnet Elem. Sch., Raleigh, NCα(c) Copyright 2011. Wonderful book
Living the Confidence Code is an empowering read about an impressive group of young women from all over the world, who discovered that their confidence lead them to achieve success and their dreams no matter how big.One of the girls featured is Anna Zhang, a Chinese American whose creative journey started when she was in the 6th grade while mastering her craft and eye for photography. Now she is the Creative Director of her own company called Colorflame, runs a successful Instagram account, and is studying at Yale class of ‘23.Overall I highly recommend this as a must read for our young adults. I needed this book as a teen. My teens are enjoying this book now and really happy that they are gleaning a lot from this book.

This is the book that every teenage girl needs to read. As a parent, it will fill in the gaps in the conversations that many of us try to have with our daughters when we encourage them to take risks and to think or act confidently. Your daughter will connect with many, if not all, of the young woman in this book. Claire, Katty and Jillellyn thank you from the bottom of my heart.

If you haven’t bought this for your tween daughter yet, then put it in your basket now! While you are at it buy copies for all her friends! It is invaluable for tweens and teens and even middle aged moms like me. Great insights into amazing young and future women like Malala and Greta Thunberg among others.

5.0 out of 5 stars A must read for every 8-12 year old girl to learn how to be brave, bold, courageous and CONFIDENT!
Reviewed in Canada on March 5, 2021
This book introduced me to some incredible young girls from around the globe who offered insights into a myriad of issues that girls face as they move forward in this world. Their stories demonstrate how they have overcome such challenges in courageous ways or achieved amazing accomplishments for the benefit of humanity by dreaming “what if” and then working towards realizing their goals. Living the Confidence Code underscores these girls’ inner tenacity to be bold and encourages young readers to utilize the “tips” that the authors have highlighted to encourage them to love themselves and invest in their time to work through the challenges that life presents in a positive manner.

Any girl who reads this book will feel empowered by the brave girls who have opened up their “inner secrets” so that others can follow successfully in their footsteps. For those mothers looking for something inspirational to share with their daughter, THIS IS IT!!!
