4.2 4.2 out of 5 stars 48 ratings

Jena Barrett loves her perfect life. She has the best job in the world, a great place to live, and a best friend that she adores. The only hiccup is this wedding planner’s love life! However, when her sister Ellie suggests a remedy for Jena’s lack of significant other, the notion is so insane, it flips Jena’s universe off-kilter. Brandon has always been the steady fixture in Jena’s life, her best friend. Even when he joined the Army out of high school, they never lost touch, picking up as though he never left the moment he returned. Now a local veterinarian, Brandon is the perfect man candy with his successful career, amazing personality, and a face and body no woman would kick out of bed—only he never dates. Not that she’s ever questioned why, at least not until now. Could Ellie be right? Could he possibly be in love with her? If so, could Jena ever love him in the same way? The risk is huge. If everything blows up in her face, she could lose her best friend. But what if the train wreck doesn’t happen? What if Brandon is her missing piece, her happy ever after?

L. L. Diamond is more commonly known as Leslie to her friends, and Mom to her three kids. A native of Louisiana, she has followed her Air Force husband to duty stations including: Louisiana, Mississippi, California, Texas, New Mexico, Nebraska, England, Missouri, and Maryland.

Aside from mother and writer, Leslie considers herself a perpetual student. She has degrees in biology and studio art but will devour any subject of interest simply for the knowledge. As an artist, her concentration is in graphic design, but watercolor is her medium of choice with one of her watercolors featured on the cover of her second book, A Matter of Chance. She has multiple certifications in fitness and coaching swimming. When she’s not writing, she is Head Age Group coach of her swim team. She also plays flute and piano, but much like Elizabeth Bennet, she is always in need of practice!

Second in Ms. Diamond's Wedding Planner series, this book follows a plot similar to the Marianne-Colonel Brandon storyline from "Sense and Sensibility." The book is interesting and well edited. It is set in the southern U. S. , always a plus for me. Note: it has some very steamy moments so I recommend it for adults only.

Enchanting tale of two halves that have known each other forever. The path to become something more makes this book a really interesting story.

NOTE: This is the second installment of The Wedding Planners series by L.L. Diamond. While each story is stand alone, I’d recommend reading them in order to better become acquainted with each character and the origins of their individual story/relationships.

The Wedding Planners by L.L. Diamond is a fun and flirty contemporary romance series that takes place in the small-town of Marysville, South Carolina. Sisters Ellie and Jena Barrett run a wedding/event planning business with their good friend Charlie Taylor. Each story in this series focuses on a specific heroine and is loosely inspired by a different Jane Austen novel. It’s Always Been Us has some lovely Sense and Sensibility vibes (just a little bit) and follows Jena Barrett, who has had some bad luck with romance lately, and is looking at her dear childhood friend Brandon Taylor in a new way…

As I mentioned in my review of book one of this series, It’s Always Been You, some of what I love most about this series is its charming small-town setting in South Carolina and the fact that these three friends work together and are savvy and successful women business-owners. I was so happy to return to this cozy and warm setting L.L. Diamond constructed, and I thoroughly loved her details and descriptions of southern living, summer fun, and weddings…I kinda wish I can take a week-long trip to Marysville to hang out with these characters and explore all the places mentioned in these books – including the plantation home in Beaufort!

But what I loved most about this story is Brandon Taylor – oh my goodness – dare I say it? I loved him more than William Davies (from book 1)! I loved everything about Brandon. Everything! He is genuine, gentle, and patient. I love how he understands his own heart, and like Colonel Brandon in Sense and Sensibility, he selflessly and patiently waits for Jena to be ready for his love. And one last point in his favor is that he works as a veterinarian alongside his dad – I mean c’mon…if he isn’t the unassuming, dependable, yet swoon-worthy boy next door, I don’t know who is!

While Brandon Taylor has Colonel Brandon written all over him, we don’t see many other Sense and Sensibility connections. Although Jena did have her heart-broken by Conner Willoughby, she is more reserved in her emotions and has grown more cautious when it comes to her heart (she seems to have more in common with Jane Bennet than she does Marianne Dashwood – which is an interesting twist!)

I am so happy L.L. Diamond chose to explore a friends-to-lovers romance with these characters. And while I loved many aspects of Brandon’s and Jena’s relationship together, I found myself wanting a little bit more. They had the chemistry and the history, but it felt like maybe they were missing some depth and dialogue. Both characters have a habit of avoiding each other or isolating themselves when faced with obstacles, and I would have liked seeing some internal reflection and analyzation happen in those moments alone and honest discussions together afterwards.

2nd NOTE: Similar to It’s Always Been You, this story has several intimate romantic scenes and uses of strong language – I’d recommend it for Mature Audiences.

It’s Always Been Us is another vibrant and engaging contemporary romance by L.L. Diamond – perfect for summer! Ms. Diamond has a wonderful talent for creating likable characters, capturing charming small-town vibes, and crafting together a captivating modern-day romance! I cannot wait to read the last book in this series, It’s Always Been You and Me.

I loved it so much I reread it

Another great novel from Ms. Diamond that was well written and the plot was an adventure to read. It kept you entertained with two grown up adults that grew up together and shared everything from childhood to adulthood. Brandon falls in love with Jena earlier than she falls in love with him. She is told by her best friends that he is in love with her but she denies it to herself.
Through fear, anxiety and doubt, she eventually does realize she loves him more than just friendship.
This is the second novel in the series and I read the third novel first and am putting the whole story plot line together as I go. This is a remarkable series involving five best friends from the same town and neighborhood that have known each other all their lives. Things happen as they grow up, are separated and find each other again.
I am thoroughly enjoying this modern day romance series.

Only plot idea is to see if best friends can become romantically involved -- resolved immediately. Mistaken jealousy and finding kitten are hackneyed and trite -- included just to add a few pages. Characters' initials the same as in P&P (Jena = Jane, Brandon = Bingley); nothing else relates to P&P. For a cute, modern book by the same author, try "Unwrapping Mr. Darcy." Skip this one.

Another well written book in this modern series. This one picks up from the first in the series although it would not be essential to have read the first one - although I would highly recommend it.

The story has charming links to Pride and Prejudice as well as to Sense and Sensibility. It is time for Jena Barrett to step into the spotlight and find romance for herself.

A continuation of a modern-day Austen inspired story (It’s Always Been You). There is mature content. I am writing this review long after I read it because somehow my previous review no longer appears. I enjoy L.L. Diamond’s books very much, and this one is no exception. It focuses on Ellie’s sister Jena, and how she finds her HEA.

I’m so loving this series! It’s loosely based on Jane Austen characters which is a huge draw for me.
The first book was fabulous and I couldn’t wait for this one, I wasn’t disappointed! I love these people and now only have to wait for the third and final instalment.
These will definitely be on my re read list - just wonderful!
