Apollo Confidential Kindle Edition
Between 1969 and 1972, twelve people walked on the surface of the Moon. Twelve others flew over its majestic surface. They were the sons of ordinary individuals. But they believed anything was possible―and they proved it to the entire world.
Fascinated by these men—heroes such as Alan Shepard, Neil Armstrong, Buzz Aldrin, and many others—airline pilot Lukas Viglietti personally recorded their testimonies, becoming a close friend and confidant to many of them in the process. Now he shares his exclusive and unprecedented insight into their adventures and the Apollo program overall in Apollo Confidential.

- Reviewed in the United States on November 26, 2023I lived during these amazing 4 years as well as the previous years of beginning space exploration. I'm sorry it didn't continue but consider the huge amount of technology that has happened because of it and the incredible men and women who made it all happen!
- Reviewed in the United States on March 7, 2020This is a very warm book and there's a lot of positivity regarding the astronauts who went to the Moon. It goes into a lot of detail about what they said and did, what kind of people they were. It tells stories from the trips as well, but it is mostly focused on the men who travelled to the Moon rather than about how it was made possible. At times the book does wind up a little dull, but I definitely am glad I bought it and I truly enjoyed it.
- Reviewed in the United States on October 14, 2019The youngest of the 12 men who walked on the Moon, Charlie Duke and Harrison Schmitt, were both born in 1935 and are 84 years-old. Along with Buzz Aldrin and Dave Scott, they are the only survivors of that exclusive fraternity.
Soon all of the Apollo astronauts will be gone. It is important to preserve their memories of mankind’s greatest engineering event. Lukas Viglietti has contributed to that in his excellent new book “Apollo Confidential.” A pilot for Swiss airlines, Viglietti got to know most of the Moonwalkers personally.
With some, like John Young, it included just a single interview during a visit to Young’s home. With others, like Neil Armstrong, it involved meeting him at multiple events over several years. And with a few, such as Charlie Duke and Ed Mitchell, Viglietti became close friends.
Viglietti presents a workman-like history of the Apollo missions to the Moon. What makes the account special are the comments of the astronauts themselves. These insights flavor the well-known events with a personal touch not found in most Apollo histories.
However, the title “Apollo Confidential” is perhaps a little misleading, likely due to the need for a catchy title. While there were many interesting stories, I did not find any major revelations.
Histories of great events are best appreciated from different perspectives. The personal anecdotes of the Apollo crews gleaned by Viglietti are a valuable addition. I recommend this book!
- Reviewed in the United States on July 29, 2019Apollo Confidential is a very personal, very involved tale of the Apollo missions. It's what you'd hear when you talked to the astronaust about their life, their way to NASA, their training and their adventurous missions. Expect to be taken along on a very personal journey, very close to the action and very close to what the Apollo program must have been like for the astronauts. Lukas Vigletti adds some of his personal experience with the people involved and this makes it even more enjoyable. He lets us join him in the fun and exitement of those incredible years of the race to the moon.
- Reviewed in the United States on September 18, 2019An Ok presentation on the Apollo astronauts. I have read better. On the other hand there were some insights into their past I wasn’t aware of.
- Reviewed in the United States on July 28, 2019Superb work! Captivating and that everyone should be able to get, because I think this is a public benefit! Congratulations to Lukas Viglietti for sharing his passion with us. A big thank-you !
Each chapter describes a lunar mission. We find the exact sequence of each mission, then we discover each astronaut, their course, their qualities and sometimes their faults. But it is especially the supplements brought by the author that enrich the reading of this book. We feel perfectly the bonds of friendship that he has been able to weave with some of these heroes.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great personal history of Spaceflight
The author of this book is a commercial airline pilot with the Swiss national carrier (and founder of Swiss Apollo). As such he has built up extensive contacts and friendship within the astronaut ranks over many years. This book proves the depth of those friendships as there are anecdotes and facts here that I've never seen recorded in other, more formal, biographies. It's an engaging read, without delving too far into the technicalities of spaceflight; more about the personal experiences of the people involved. Also, given that the book was published in French, the English translation is excellent. Highly recommended!
