Review
“There's nothing better than curling up with a bowl of noodle soup, especially as the weather starts to cool. This recipe from Carolyn Cesario and Julie Sullivan's Nut Butter incorporates two unexpected yet complementary ingredients—miso and almond butter—for a luxuriously rich and creamy broth. The almond butter adds a nuttiness, balancing out the tangy miso, and elevates the soup to star-chef quality. Plus, the added nut butter provides plant-based protein and fiber to the meal, making it such an easy (and yummy) way to get your essential nutrients in for the day.” (MindBodyGreen)

Carolyn is the creative mastermind behind Ground Up’s delicious and unique nut butter flavors. She has cultivated her cooking skills through her travels, food blog, and her work as a freelance recipe developer. Her homemade nut butters became her “sweet treat” and soon friends began asking for it. Soon after she met Julie, Ground Up was born where Carolyn handles all marketing, social media, and product development. Carolyn has a business degree from Babson College and a background in online marketing and digital consulting.
Julie Sullivan

The book is loaded with recipes that center around nut butter including recipes to make various different nut butters beginning with the same basic concept, then adding flavors in the form of spices, oils and extracts to make them your own. I loved this piece alone as I want to move away from store bought nut butters and really appreciate this comprehensive guide to getting it right and making them more unique. They cover everything from selecting ingredients, roasting nuts and seeds, and storing your home made butters. They also have some suggested recipes that mirror some of their store offerings such as Cardamom Almond Cashew Butter and Espresso Stout Nut Butter! Its worth noting that these butters are needed to make many of the featured recipes though you could always adapt.
The book then takes on different meals: Breakfast: Everything from Acai bowls , Oatmeal and Granola to overnight oats, cookies and pancakes. The we have snacks and bites which feature "Bliss balls" which are handy ways to sneak in a bit of protein in a bite after a workout. These are pretty quick to make too. Dressing and sauces features things you would expect like satay sauce and mole; but also pesto and miso dresssings which can lend to a variety of dishes.
The savory section is really loaded with recipes from salads, to soups, tacos to spring rolls; and to finish there is a decadent sweet treats section with "nice' cream, cookies, brownies, and nut butter cups to name but a few.
The recipes are generally easy to follow, and once you have your nut butter ready to go, pretty simple to execute. I am excited to start making some of these creations; and more than anything, developing a range of nut butters! Great book with some fun, creative and easy to follow recipes!
Nope.
There are a LOT of recipes for different, delicious, oozy good nut butters, and just about all are made with ingredients you can get at any grocery story.
But then come the other recipes:
For breakfast: Coconut Crepes with Chocolate-Hazelnut Cashew Butter. Cardamom Banana Bread with Nut Butter Streusel.
A Savory chapter: Broccoli Quinoa Bowls with Walnut-Miso Dressing. Squash & Cauliflower Tacos with Almond Mole. Fresh Spring Rolls with Cardamom Satay Sauce.
Sweet Treats: Snickerdoodle Swirl Skillet Cookie. Turkish Coffee Chocolate Chip Cookies.
If those recipe titles don't have your mouth watering yet, you should see the photographs that accompany them. And those are just a small sample of the amazing recipes included. I cannot open this book without my stomach growling and my mouth watering.
This book is so much more than a nut butter book. It does include the basics such as stocking your kitchen, storing different nuts and how to toast them, etc. The nut butters also sound scrumptious. But it's the recipes using the nut butters that are absolutely fantastic and really raise this book to a level I was not expecting. I was not expecting such a special book, but this is one I need for my shelf and will likely be giving as Christmas presents as well.
Many thanks to NetGalley for allowing me an ARC in exchange for an honest review. I'll be submitting my Weight Watchers bill to them shortly. ;)
