A Leap In Time (The Travelers Series Book 1) Kindle Edition

3.6 out of 5 stars 161 ratings

The morning after hanging an antique painting, Lexi Carter notices strange noises in her living room. Scared beyond words, she confronts the sounds only to discover that the landscape itself has come alive. Did Roman soldiers on horseback just gallop across the thing?

She impulsively touches the painting and is sucked into the world of ancient Pompeii. Lexi meets Marcus, a Roman Adonis, who occupies her every thought, and sends her senses into a tailspin.

The year is 59AD and Pompeii is at its peak of glory and prosperity. Lexi is faced with the decision of choosing between two worlds, her modern day Los Angeles or ancient Pompeii…with the man who captured her heart and soul.

First off...I was hesitant to read this book as I've only read a few time travel books. Given that I thought I would check out the first chapter and see if I was intrigued. Let me just say, that I was captivated by the first page and was not able to put this book down.

I loved the way Ms. Neville was realistic about the idea of time traveling...and answering some of my own questions about the reality of the situation.

Lexi was the kind of character that I immediately connected with and was excited to ride side saddle in her journey. Marcus was extremely swoony.
And I enjoyed watching their relationship develop.
This was an incredible read, where you will find yourself flipping through to find out what happens next. I truly enjoyed and am looking forward to the next in the series!

Lexi Carter is inexplicably drawn to a landscape painting in an antiques shop. With its marvellous contrast of shadow and light, and its picturesque subject matter - a tree beside a creek, with an ancient city in the distance - Lexi can't resist, and buys the painting.

Soon she's wakened at 4:30 every morning by odd sounds. Birds are singing, water is gurgling...but it's not the pipes in her apartment or the sparrows outside; the sounds are coming from the painting. Mystified, Lexi realizes the painting is a portal to another place in time - ancient Pompeii.

She's soon traveling back and forth from the present to the past. Her best friends, Kate and Charlotte, are both intrigued and afraid for her. What if something goes wrong? What if she can't return from the past? But once Lexi meets Marcus, she falls in love and finds herself torn between the present and the past.

This is a fun, compelling read for fans of time travel romance. Although the problems inherent in time travel are resolved a bit too easily, A Leap in Time will keep you turning pages.

Engy Albasel Neville is a talented author and one to watch. I'll be on the lookout for the next book in her Travelers series.

I liked some things about the story, although they were a bit far fetched. However, I didn't like that the story just ended in the middle.
There was no resolution of many of the plot points, it just ended. If a sequel had been planned immediately, maybe I would understand
this, but I went to the author's page and no sequel is there, even awhile after the first one was released. So I will never know the end
of the story, and I hate unresolved stories!

The story started out sort of interesting but ended very flat. In between was one sexual encounter after another. If you are looking for soft porn give it a read. It's not explicit but the story was lacking any substance. No mention of how they would manage the destruction of Pompeii.

I was very interested in reading this novel, as I recently visited the ruins of Pompeii myself. Ms. Neville did an admirable job of evoking the feeling of an ancient Roman city, contrasting that with life in a current-day city in the United States. In each part of the book, I wondered how the author would handle the various aspects of time travel between ancient and modern times. She addressed all the perceived problems ably, in a way that seemed plausible for the reader, as well as, providing wonderful possibilities for the characters. Congratulations on a job well-done!

Isn't every story supposed to have an antogonist? Problems to overcome? Some kind of plot twist? The book concept was interesting and it all started out good, but then nothing happened. Everything went just swimmingly for the main character...what was the point? I can't believe someone even published this book! Where/who were the editors?? I kept waiting for something to happen and it just never did. I was quite shocked when I realized I was at the end of the book!

I enjoyed this story. I read some reviews that weren't very nice about the story line but I did enjoy the idea of an enchanted painting that was meant for Lexi to connect with so she could time travel to Pompeii and find true love. There were definitely some issues with how she could blend in so easily in Pompeii and how Marcus and his sister believed so quickly her time travel through a painting story but after they were shown how it happened it did seem to work ok. I did hope she would write a sequel to this book since Catina was given a painting that Lexi bought for her thinking maybe it will also be enchanted and meant for Catina. However, she already found her true love so not sure how she would formulate a story from that but she could try a different approach. We'll see since she wrote this one three years ago maybe she is working on a sequel.

What a lovely, lovely story! From the first page I was hooked and needed to know how the story would end. This book shot straight up my reading pile when I saw it being promoted by Chicklit sites on Facebook because I was intrigued by the premise of a time travel storyline involving Pompeii where I visited last year. And Engy Albasel Neville didn't disappoint me by very cleverly bringing Pompeii to life in all its splendour. The main characters Lexi and Marcus are just beautiful inside and out and their emotional and brave journey had me cheering them on. Loved the setting, loved all the characters, loved the ending and can't wait to read the next book in this series!

Such a great book! The plot is so captivating and so interesting. This book is not only about a romantic relationship, but also about history as well. It was so good that I read the book in one day. I can not wait for the next one! I will be one of the first to buy it! The characters were so well planned and their personalities really added to the story. The way that the author contrasts the two periods in history is excellent and the two periods really compliment each other. A really well written book

A Leap in Time is a light-hearted and enjoyable read. It opens well and the writing is good. The storyline is an unusual one. Lexi e young modern woman in Los Angeles buys a painting of Pompeii which turns out to be a time portal into the ancient city. I loved the way she didn’t embark on the adventure without involving her best friends Kate and Charlotte. In Pompeii she first meets up with a young girl, Catina, who takes her home. There she meets and falls in love with Marcus. Some adroit manoeuvring and the pair embark on a passionate relationship, resulting in marriage and a weekly commute between Pompeii in 57BC and modern day Los Angeles.
I admit to reading on hoping that the story-line wouldn’t deteriorate after the first chapter or so … and while it is a pleasant read, more research should have been done into the manners and customs of that era to make it more plausible. For me the family life, the behaviour of Marcus and Lexie no way fitted ancient Pompeii, and the scene of their marriage with hotels, magistrates and coaches (Since when did Romans ride in coaches) did not ring true. The rich used a litter or a sedan chair. Marcus too, while gorgeous, behaved like a 21st century play boy and I found him ill fitting as a character in 57BC.

I expected to really enjoy this book a time travel romance to Pompeii! Well it was so boring and really nothing much happened. It started well with the painting but then it was just a back and forth in time with both the heroine and hero being accepted by everyone though they came from different times. NO excitement or anything happening at all.

Truly one of the worst books ever. Nothing happens, the narrative is childish and dull. The author clearly undertook no research of her chosen subject; FYI Ms Neville, potatoes were brought to Europe in the sixteenth century, no one knew them in the ancient world yet the main characters eat them in ancient Pompeii?
Utter nonsense. Don't waste your time.
