Maurice Hinson, the most prolific writer on piano literature in the history of the instrument, taught for fifty-eight years at the Southern Baptist Theological Seminary, Louisville, Kentucky. He was founding editor of the Journal of the American Liszt Society and the recipient of the Commemorative Medal by the Hungarian government for his contribution to research on Franz Liszt. Hinson is known for his many books on piano repertoire and journal articles, and for 300+ editions of piano works. His students have served in significant positions in universities and churches throughout the world.
Wesley Roberts is Professor of Music at Campbellsville University, where he teaches courses in piano, organ, and musicology. He has also been a visiting professor at the French Piano Institute (Paris) and Shanghai Normal University (China). Roberts has presented concerts as pianist and organist throughout the United States, in Europe, and in China, as well as presentations at conferences of the Music Teachers National Association and the European Piano Teachers Association.
Hinson and Roberts are co-authors of Guide to the Pianist's Repertoire, Fourth Edition (IUP 2014) and The Piano in Chamber Ensemble, Second Edition (IUP 2006).

About the author

Wesley Roberts is Professor Emeritus of Music at Campbellsville University, where he taught courses in piano, organ, and musicology from 1982 to 2022. His students have won awards in solo piano, solo organ, and piano ensemble competitions, and have earned doctoral degrees in piano performance and musicology. He has presented concerts as pianist and organist throughout the United States, in Europe and in China, including premières of works by the Dutch composers Hans Osieck, Johan van Kempen, and Kees Weggelaar, and the American composers Tom Johnson, James W. Moore, and Daniel Gilliam. Dr. Roberts is co-author with Maurice Hinson of The Piano in Chamber Ensemble, 2nd and 3rd Editions (2006, 2021), Guide to the Pianist’s Repertoire, 4th Edition (2014), The Pianist's Dictionary, 2nd Edition (2020), and The Pianist's Bookshelf, 2nd Edition (2023). He has served as a visiting professor at the French Piano Institute in Paris and at Shanghai Normal University, and as organist at Calvin Presbyterian Church in Louisville, First Baptist Church in Somerset, and Our Lady of Perpetual Help Catholic Church in Campbellsville for nearly a decade each. In addition, he has been President of three professional organizations, including the Kentucky Music Teachers Association, which granted him its’ 2005 Distinguished Service Award and 2012 Distinguished Teaching Award. Dr. Roberts is also the recipient of the 2013 Campbellsville University Distinguished Professor Award.
