Farrell Stone is moving his lab to his home in northern Maine in order to make sure his newsest products design will stay secret since he think there is a leak of company secrets in the Portland office.
Farrell is looking for a live in housekeeper and his new sister in law Katie ask him to interview her sister new roommate- Ivy Danby.
Ivy's is a young widow with a baby girl and she is looking for a new start in life so she really hope to get the job and she is able to convince Farrell to give her a chance.
Farrell is a widower as well, he lost his wife 7 years ago and he is not looking to get married again or to have any romantic relationship but spending so much time with Ivy makes it hard for him to keep his distance.
I really enjoyed reading about Ivy and Farrell, they are both afraid of new relationship for different reasons, early on we get hints that Ivy didn't have a happy marriage with her late husband and Farrell is scared of losing another person he love after his wife died young from cancer and his dad died at a car accident.
Ivy is a strong heroin and she is trying to turn her life around and be a good role model for her daughter Dolly.
When Farrell and Ivy can't ignore their chemistry anymore they agree to have fun for a short time and both agree they are not looking for love or anything long term but soon they understand they have true feeling for one another but can they overcome their fear?
Upstairs Downstairs Temptation was a great read, it was sexy, emotional and funny.
I loved reading about Farrell's brothers and baby Dolly was adorable.
I can't wait to read Zachary's book next month.
Both Ivy and Farrell have emotional baggage from their previous marriages, yet they must interact daily in the cabin while Farrell works on his inventions. During this time, Ivy and Farrell develop feelings for each other which scares Farrell so much he terminates Ivy’s employment early and pushes her away.
Once Ivy has disappeared, Farrell realizes the depth of his love and embarks on a journey to find Ivy and her daughter, Dolly.
I loved the chemistry between Ivy and Farrell. I loved Katie, Farrells’ nosy sister in law, and personal assistant.
The author did a great job of developing the main and sub characters as well as the actual storyline.
Farrell and Ivy’s romance is the perfect combination of a whole bunch of popular tropes. Single Mom with cute little baby? Check. Secluded cabin in the woods? Check. Forced proximity? Check. Big, loving family? Check. Rags to riches? Check. See all the good stuff rolled into one package.
The only thing I did not quite love about this book was Farrell’s tendency to get lost in the past. His internal conflict for the book never quite made sense to me and, although it provided for much drama, I would have loved for more of the story to focus solely on Farrell and Ivy.
Still though, this book is 100% worth every moment of discomfort of Farrell with his past. This one is definitely going on my “keeper shelf”!
His well intentioned sister-in-law, Katie has found someone to stay at Ferrell’s home to make sure cooking, cleaning and event planning are taken care of while he buckles down and works on new products. Katie hires Ivy Danby, her sister’s roommate, to move into the estate and help Ferrell. Ivy and her young baby daughter move in and she quickly learns how to work and coexist with Ferrell on a day to day basis, even through a series of awkward encounters. There is a lot of mystery surrounding Ivy Danby as we are introduced to her.
We find out early, that both Ferrell and Ivy have lost their spouses and do not want to be vulnerable again. But each of them for very different reasons. Ferrell lost his high school sweetheart, his only true love. Ivy lost her husband, but there is a good bit of mystery around the circumstances of her husband and we slowly learn more about her unfortunate loss.
Ferrell finds that while most people want to “make it better”, when it comes to the loss of his wife, Ivy simply listened and that fulfilled a need he didn’t know he had. Ferrell also realizes that Ivy is a new mother, lost and afraid. This is also what his sister-In-law, Katie saw and must have decided Ivy needed the job for her sake.
How will Ferrell be able to figure out who or what turned Ivy into a frightened shadow of herself and gain her trust? Their stories unfold in a tender and endearing way that lends us to rooting for their love story success.
