This was a very good book with good characters. The H and h had worked together for 10 years, she didn’t know he was a prince. The H had to take over the crown because his brother had abdicated. The H knew he had to marry so he chose the h because he trusted her. The H didn’t want to love the f
h because of a past bad experience. Great ending and epilogue.

Debs
5.0 out of 5 stars Friends to royal spouses to lovers
Reviewed in the United Kingdom on June 25, 2020
A really enjoyable story, particularly as the relationship between the hero and heroine is based on a decade long friendship. Mateo is in urgent need of a wife and he manages to convince his long time friend and research partner, Rachel, to partner him in a far less scientific project when his elder brother abdicates unexpectedly. Rachel has long considered herself a confirmed spinster and has practiced 'being essential to' rather than 'loved by'those nearest to her. She had no idea Mateo was a prince, let alone a prospective king. Mateo is quite adorable as he truly believes everyone sees Rachel as he does and his loss of temper on one occasion, leading to Rachel referring to him as a 'drama king' was quite one of my favourite bits. Mateo takes some time to realise Rachel is the perfect match for him in every way.
