I have been following Meera and her blog for some time now. I am at the very beginning of my blogging biz journey, and this book talks to me! I am still half-way through with this book and I like her in-depth approach about each topic. In this book, she talks about how to plan for a blog as a biz, how to deep dive into your audience persona to craft content that they would read..this is gold!! I have also skimmed through other topics in this book such as the Launch plan for your blog and this appears very clear and to the point. She will give you ideas on how to get started, where to look for more info and guide you in a way that is seamless for a beginner. I will update my review once I finish this book.. until then I am so loving to read every minute of it!

This book does not explain the tech side of setting up a blog. Rather it will help you with finding your blog's niche and core message, defining your blog and brand, creating content with purpose to move your brand forward (rather than just throwing stuff at the wall to see what sticks), and creating a business model to monetize your blog.
The most helpful thing for me personally was the chart with the blogging stages, what to focus on at each stage, and potential issues that crop up at each stage (and how to get past them). Eye opening! If you want to know what to focus on and what to leave for later, that section alone is pure gold.
If you just want to blog for fun, this isn't the book for you. But if you're ready to get serious about blogging, to treat your blog like a business, and set it up right from the get-go (or, like me, fix my existing blog) this book is the best for its simple, clear, concise information.
- Reviewed in the United States on February 1, 2020Been following Meera for awhile now and I have always enjoyed her style of teaching so I picked up the book as I am in a place where I'm ready to implement the strategies to start my blog. I had been stuck in the "mental prep work" for two years.
There are plenty of actionable tips with clear examples that I would imagine to be applicable to most niche. The tips are pretty general and cover everything up to monetisation strategies but just enough not to be overwhelming, particularly for beginner bloggers.
There's no new ground-breaking angle but it's structured in such a way that makes it easy for me to follow and take notes.
The content is, however––and important to note––, more geared towards guiding those with rather established expertise than those who are just starting out and in the process of figuring out what they want to be known for.
I wouldn't recommend this for those currently toying with the idea of starting a blog as the content discussed is meant to be implemented should they be of relevance to the reader's current stage of blogging growth. And thus, you will only get the full benefit from this book once you already have an idea of what to focus on.

I could barely fall asleep because my mind was so abuzz with all of the ideas swirling around thanks to this book! I finished it today, and came straight to Amazon to write this review.
I have a new blog, and have been feeling really lost lately with what to do next. Keep churning out new posts? (About what?) Email marketing? SEO? Create a product? I decided to take a step back and bought this book because I've been on Meera's email list for a while and her words have always resonated with me.
I now have a much more specific plan for my blog, and I know the next steps I need to tackle to get me to where I want to go.
If you haven't started a blog yet, or if you have started but are feeling lost about where you're going, this is the book to get.

I just bought this book and like others have said, you need the workbook that goes along with it in order to get the "full effect". What others have no mentioned is that you have to pay for it. The workbook that you need to download on the computer is not free... Not pleased.

There was some helpful information that I had not considered, so I appreciated that being said. I was a little confused on how the email marketing worked and will be rereading that portion of the book. Otherwise, thank you for the useful information, and I am eager to start right away.

Meera ofrece mucho contenido, muy bien explicado, sin hacerte perder el tiempo. Y a un precio muy bajo para lo que te da a cambio. No trata de venderte la "ultima estrategia super poderosa" como otros. Simplemente te dice que es lo que hay, como organizarlo e imprime su experiencia personal. Es alguien que se nota que ha estado ahi y ha pasado exitosamente por ese camino. Haganse un favor lean todos sus libros.

My biggest take away from this book is to take stock of where you are now so you can determine what to focus on.
Quote from the book: “Focus only on activities that are crucial for the stage that your business is at. Aim for hitting only your stage appropriate milestones. Anything that doesn’t fit in with your stage of growth is not important—at least for now! That’s the best way to prevent overwhelm from sabotaging you and your blog.”
I’ve been a victim of the “shiny object syndrome” and Meera’s advice is great for helping you to focus on what is important right now so you can clear away some of the clutter and reduce overwhelm.
I like her advice to pick one traffic channel to begin with (instead of spreading yourself too thin over multiple social media sites) with the reminder that it takes time to gain any traffic – so you don’t have to have everything figured out perfectly. Just begin and modify as you get feedback on your efforts.
She provides a good explanation and tips about how to determine who your target customer is and how to prepare a value proposition to appeal to them. She also gives a great explanation about what is involved in creating your branding to appeal to them.
Meera provides questions for you to answer about your goals and business needs, so you can make more informed decisions about how to proceed. She has great tips about creating effective content as well as creating website home and about pages with more impact.
The Blog Startup is a book I will refer to again as I continue to make decisions about my business and prepare to launch my website.
