A comprehensive encyclopedia providing the meanings, powers, facts, and folklore for over 1,001 flower species.

For centuries, artists and lovers have used the secret language of flowers, or floriography, to discreetly send overt messages of their desires and emotions. A simple flower could reveal a variety of hidden meanings, from a flirtatious “I like you” to a serious declaration of everlasting love. For example:
  • A sweet pea reported a friendly “I’m thinking of you”
  • A lavender rose screamed “Love at first sight”
  • Geraniums signified “friendship”
  • Hibiscus wished “Peace and happiness”

S. Thereesa Dietz has meticulously compiled over 1,001 of your favorite flowers into this beautifully updated and definitive guide, complete with full-color illustrations. Organized by both scientific and common names, each species contains fascinating and forgotten symbolic flower meanings from ancient Greek and Roman times to today. Whether used as a reference to create beautifully bespoke wedding bouquets or as a flower companion to plan stunning garden combinations, this comprehensive edition is perfect for every flower lover.

“Flower lovers will marvel at S. Theresa Dietz’s The Complete Language of Flowers, an A to Z of flowers and plants listing symbolic meanings, possible powers, folklore and facts.” —BookPage

I bought this as a Christmas gift and I’m a flower lover myself. I had a bit of a hard time letting go of this, lol. The illustrations are just gorgeous and colorful. It’s a beautiful book, but since it was a gift I haven’t dug into it from a reading/reference standpoint. Th receiver also thought it was a lovely book upon receiving it.

I sometimes forget to look at the dimensions when I'm buying books. I bought this as a gift for my Mom, and in my mind, it was going to be this large coffee table book, but it's not, it's tiny. The illustrations are beautiful but they are small as well as the text. This would have been the perfect book, if it were just like, a normal sized coffee table book. Even 8x10 would have been nice. I think she'll need to wear her glasses when looking up the different flowers.

I bought this for my mom for Mother’s Day but I use it all the time, it’s so so fun to look up flowers and their meanings and it’s super organized/easy to use.

Small book, filled with a wealth of information & can easily fit in your bag for travel. The print is small, I would say fit for fairies eyes, but after seeing how much information is in this little collection, it just astounds me. The art & style is beautiful & charming. A great gift for flower lovers of all ages. I highly recommend. Maybe gift it with a pretty magnifying glass.
