Cassandra Reeder is an author, recipe developer, avid procrastinator and enthusiastic napper. She launched her blog The Geeky Chef in 2008, bringing fictional food and drinks from a vast array of fandoms into reality with simple and fun recipes. Since then, a series of cookbooks based on the trailblazing blog have been published, including The Geeky Chef Cookbook and The Geeky Bartender Drinks. In 2023, she released The Unofficial Princess Bride Cookbook, a delectable homage to the classic cult film. Later that same year, she released The Video Game Chef, a culinary guidebook featuring recipes for video game foods spanning from the ’80s to today. When not conjuring up recipes for fiction-inspired feasts and refreshments, Cassandra can be found having adventures in Portland, OR with her husband and two little geeks, and eating homemade Klingon Gagh straight from the fridge at 2am.

Best cookbook I've ever had
5 Stars
Best cookbook I've ever had
Had a Game Of Thrones night and made a bowl of brown and a beef and bacon pie. I have to say, it was by far two of the best recipes I've ever used. Husband, grandma and 7 year old all loved both. I will be buying the other cook books after I make more from this one. and there are NO left overs.

Loved this cookbook! I actually keep it on my coffee table as my friends and family will pick it up, read it and before we know it a conversation starts about food or Star Trek, Hunger Games or Neil Gaiman, author and one of the greatest writers of our time. Cassandra Reeder is certainly an expert on all that is geeky and she really creates interesting food recipes too! Our family is enjoying our kitchen making meals from the book and if it’s a movie match, we watch the movie while eating....Cassandra’s a genius. So much fun!

Thank you to NetGalley and Quarto Publishing Group – Race Point Publishing for this book in exchange for an honest review.

Cassandra Reeder’s The Geeky Chef Cookbook is a fun collection of unique recipes which are inspired by popular media like Game of Thrones, Lord of the Rings, The Hunger Games and The Legend of Zelda. I love Reeder’s writing style and the detailed recipe instructions. I also like the pictures but I would have liked to see all the finished food as well as a more exciting book design.

The book features recipes inspired by various media like books (Harry Potter, The Chronicles of Narnia), movies (The Avengers, The Big Lebowski), TV series (Serenity, The X-Files), and games (World of Warcraft and The Legend of Zelda). This collection features a wide range of foods: there’s recipes for ice cream, pancakes, soups, sandwiches, pies, pastries and more! Eat your way into the world of Breaking Bad with Los Pollos Hermanos Chicken, treat yourself to Harry Potter’s Cauldron Cakes, or have Adventure Time’s Bacon Pancakes for brunch. Or, if you want something a little more complicated or unusual, whip up Mass Effect’s Calamari Gumbo or Earthbound’s Peanut Cheese Bars or maybe even some people-free Soylent Green!

The recipes are clearly detailed and easy-to-follow. I love Reeder’s light and witty humour which gives a lovely touch to an already wonderful cookbook! Each recipe begins with a great brief introduction about the media that inspired it. Most of the dishes are simple and feature common pantry staples. However, for the more adventurous, there are some slightly more complicated dishes with fun specialty ingredients like high energy plankton, herring, and squid!

Many of the recipes are accompanied by lovely full-colour pictures. However, I really would have liked photos of all the finished dishes. I like the themed photos which often subtly reflect the media they are inspired by. But, some pictures are a little generic and I couldn’t immediately figure out the associated media. Also, this book is so quirky that I wish that the layout had been as fun as the unique recipes. The recipes would have been nicely elevated by a more vibrant design.

The Geeky Chef Cookbook is a fantastically fun and unique recipe book. I love Reeder’s other books and this one did not disappoint at all! I can’t wait to pick up a physical copy to add to my cookbook collection!

Used mostly for the baking recipes so far and I can't wait to try out even more -- These recipes are super tasty and easy enough for a beginner level cook/baker like myself to comprehend. Even bought a second copy for a friend for Christmas!

Bought this as a gift, together with the Geeky Bartender. The recipes are done wonderfully, and if you are a true fan of any of the featured books/shows/movies, you will have a great time. Even if you are not a fan, the recipes are still interesting to make.

5.0 out of 5 stars Ottimo acquisto, attenzione che è tutto in inglese

Ottimo acquisto.

A lot of great recipes. Bought it for my sister and brother-in-law who are definitely on the geeky side! They couldn't put it down Christmas morning, haha, were so excited about seeing stuff from their favourite shows and games! Was pleasantly surprised with the variety of games / shows that the recipes come from and just how delicious they all seem. Perfect size as well, small yet not too small. Really glossy pages and a nice sturdy hardcover. Not like some other cookbooks which take up too much space on your counter when cooking. Arrived on time, too! Definitely recommend :)
