4.7 4.7 out of 5 stars 471 ratings

Victory or death! Fight to survive.

The complete set in one package – as much military science fiction adventure as your heart can handle. Aliens. Galactic conquest. Grunts. And firepower. Humanity learns that it's not the biggest or the baddest in the universe, but that doesn't stop them.

Scorpion's Fury:

Who kicks off the battle? Cannon fodder. Soften up the enemy. The Metal Legion. Old mechs crewed by former prisoners with nowhere else to go. They carry the burden. They bear the pain.

But they don't want to die. “Never fight fair when fighting for your life” The motto of the Metal Legion. They fight to win.

The mechs stand tall, or crawl, or run, or scamper. A dozen different designs, held together by rough welds and sheer willpower. And the soldiers within, like Xi Bao who refuses to give up.

Taking her armor underground, she finds the enemy, in numbers far greater than she was told. Knee deep in the war, her crew gives their old mech new vigor for one last chance at glory.

Victory or death! More ammo. More missiles. More beds in the hospital.

Craig retired from the Marine Corps after a long career in the military intelligence community, having worked with most of the U.S. Government's three-letter agencies. After retiring and a short stint with physical security, Craig went to law school, graduated summa cum laude, and went into business consulting. From intelligence, to the inner workings of company board rooms, to on the ground leadership, Craig has seen it firsthand.

His books are an extension of his experience, putting the trials and tribulations of a fast-paced world into your hands. Whether in Science Fiction, Thrillers, Fantasy, or even his Non-Fiction, you'll find consistent themes of justice and doing right by those who are counting on their leaders. Leadership is a service, not a crown to lord over others.

No matter where Craig went, he always had a book with him. Thanks to 21st Century technology, He now has thousands of books at his fingertips and with him wherever he goes. How many books would he have read on deployments had he not had to carry a physical book?

No one is encumbered like that now. Craig loves the works of Robert Heinlein, Anne McCaffrey, Andre Norton, JRR Tolkien, Robert E. Howard, and so many more. He has been compared to Andre Norton and that is humbling - she was an incredible author with a huge list of novels to her credit. With every new book, Craig aspires to live up to those that you, the readers, have compared him to.

Through a bizarre series of events, Craig ended up in Fairbanks, Alaska. He never expected to retire to a place where golf courses are only open for four months out of the year. But that's the way it is. It is off the beaten path. He and his wife get to watch the northern lights from their driveway. Their dog has lots of room to run, just until temperatures reach fifty below zero. They have from three and a half hours of daylight in the winter to twenty-four hours in the summer.

It’s all part of the give and take of life. If they didn’t have those extremes, then everyone would live in the sub-arctic.

This is a great series. It is great on characters with character; with witty banter and with good taste in a playlist. The mechs are good in the multitude of designs. I would say that this is not a hard core science type science fiction book. If you want books that dive into quantum enery taps, etc. That does not happen here. There is enough science to make the background work and is believable. Read it for what it is...Good Storytelling!

I started this because really who doesn’t love “big honkin mechs?” But the story kept me involved. Took me a bit to finish but a well done story and I recommend it. “Metal Never Dies!”

Pretty good. Not the typical mech story. Creative alien menace.

This series was awesome. Great characters with complete character development. I began playing Battletech back when it was first called Battle Droids. Many of the mechs mentioned in this series can be related to Battletech. The story is well thought out and the ending was perfect. There were a few fluctuations where the types of mechs were changed by type or weight. But I can forgive that. Poor Sargon went from a 70 ton Archer to a 50 ton Trebuchet with just a few key strokes.

Metal may never dies but sadly this series has came to a end. I loved this series of books and must say anyone that grew up on the 70s and 80s would love this series. The music, Dragonlance, movie, and pop culture references are great! Craig is obviously a man with great tastes. LOL But in all seriousness this is a great series I would highly recommend.

I loved these books and their characters and stories. Being a born southern boy, I like anything that goes bang, being an Air Force veteran crew chief, I love aerial and space combat stories and the pilots and their crews. Spaceships (fictional), mechs and marines are my favorite sci-fi stories. This set I could not put down, enjoy the ride as these characters grow into heroes. Great Read!

Yes it took me a while but I read the whole series.
Other than some nit picky stuff I was very satisfied with the presentation and content of the series.

Eight novels for $9.99 (Canadian) makes this the best bargain for your dollar you are likely to ever encounter.
As good as Scott Bartlett and Rick Partlow at their best.
First rate world building. Strong characters and character development.
Humour with that slightly skewed impact that I will always associate with military camaraderie.
A beautiful story arc that leads to an explosive ending with all plot threads finally drawn together.

5.0 out of 5 stars Honking Big Mechs
Reviewed in the United Kingdom on November 20, 2020
I'll normally put in some stars on a book I've enjoyed but very rarely take the time to write any sort of review. That's pretty selfish given the hours of enjoyment I've had from a host of authors but would be almost a criminal offence given how much I've enjoyed the Metal Legion.

I've always enjoyed stories about Big stompy robots, though they are scarce amongst the more common scifi tropes. Metal Legion has been a fun and immersive ride as the Terran Colonists fight for their place and humaniity's in a vast galaxy filled with conflict both home and afar, on and off the battlefield.

If you enjoy military scifi and fast paced frantic battles this is definitely for your 'to read' list.
